STORYLINES
LEADING OFF
• Baylor Baseball returns home for an important stretch of games against UT Arlington and Texas Tech this week in Waco.
• The Bears are currently riding a season-high six-game losing streak, their longest since March 24-April 2, 2023 (7).
• BU is 4-1 this season in home games following a road trip, with three of those wins coming in midweek contests.
• Baylor currently sits in a three-way tie for ninth place in the Big 12 standings at 9-12, alongside Kansas State and Utah. The top 12 teams in the conference will qualify for the Big 12 Tournament; BU is two games ahead of 12th-place Arizona (7-14) and three games clear of 13th-place Texas Tech (6-15) entering the weekend.
• The Bears have 10 comeback victories in 2026 and have come from behind in each of their last four wins.
MATCHING UP WITH THE MAVERICKS
• Baylor is 94-35 all-time against UT Arlington and 5-0 against the Mavericks under fourth-year head coach Mitch Thompson.
• BU has won each of its last seven matchups against UTA, dating back to April 6, 2021, when current Baylor Director of Operations Darin Thoms was the head coach of the Mavs.
• In addition to Thomas, the Bears have two former Mavericks on their roster in Tyce Armstrong and Cade Dodson. Meanwhile, former BU assistant coach Mike Taylor, former catcher Zach Mazoch and former RHP Danny Valadez will make their return to Waco alongside the rest of the UTA roster.
• Baylor is 6-4 in midweek ballgames so far this season and 33-15 in such games during the Thompson Era.
• The Bears are 10-7 against fellow teams from the state of Texas this year.
PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS
• Tues. April 28 • 6:30 p.m. CT • RHP Caldwell McFaddin vs. TBD
SWIPING RIGHT (ON THE BASES)
• Through 43 games, the Bears have stolen 75 bases, the most by a BU team at this point in a season since at least 2003.
• 75 stolen bases is also the most in a single season since the Bears stole 96 in 2012.
• Baylor has stolen five or more bases five times in 2026, and have stolen multiple bases in 19 games this year.
• 2026 is the first season since 2013 that BU has had three or more players reach double figures in stolen bases (Sanders, 17; Janusek, 16; Riebock, 10).
• Baylor ranks fourth in the Big 12 with 75 stolen bases, but its 34 bags in conference games ranks third, just three shy of the league lead.
THE TYCE IS RIGHT
• Redshirt senior 1B Tyce Armstrong is having one of the best slugging seasons in Baylor history, as the Magnolia, Texas, native crushed his 15th and 16th home runs of the year on Sunday at Arizona State.
• The multi-HR effort was his fourth of the year, joining his three-home run day on Opening Day against New Mexico State (Feb. 13), a two-homer game at Houston (March 27), and a two-homer effort against UTSA (April 14) which included a dramatic game-tying blast in the bottom of the 12th inning.
• Armstrong is tied for fifth in the Big 12 with 16 home runs and ranks 10th in the league with 48 RBIs.
• Armstrong's 16 blasts moved him into a tie for 10th place on Baylor's single-season home run leaderboards. He sits just five shy of the all-time record, held by Charley Carter (21, 1998).
• Armstrong's 16 home runs are the most by a Bear since Josh Ludy hit 16 in 2012.
• Armstrong's 16 homers mark the 11th time since 2012 that a Bear has hit double-digit homers in a single season.
• Armstrong is the third player under fourth-year head coach Mitch Thompson to hit double-digit bombs in a season, joining Wesley Jordan's 10 in 2025 and now Brady Janusek's 10 in 2026.
• Armstrong and Janusek are the first set of BU teammates to each hit 10+ home runs in a season since 2021 (Andy Thomas, 11; Jared McKenzie, 10) and their 26 combined homers are the most by two Bears since 2009, when Shaver Hansen (17) and Aaron Miller (12) combined to hit 29.
DIAPER DANDY
• Freshman OF Brady Janusek is putting up one of the top seasons by any freshman in the Big 12, leading the league with 10 home runs and tied for the conference lead with 16 stolen bases among first-year players.
• Janusek sits just one home run shy of tying Baylor's freshman single-season HR record (Max Muncy, 11, 2010).
• Janusek sits eight stolen bases shy of the program's all-time freshman record, set by Mike Robison in 1988 (24).
