Bears in search of first win over the Cowgirls since 2019
WACO, Texas – The 10th-ranked Baylor equestrian team returns to action on Friday, March 27, to face No. 6 Oklahoma State, kicking off the Big 12 Championship in the semifinals, at Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center at 10 a.m. in Stillwater, Okla.
The fourth-seeded Bears (3-8, 2-4) face the first-seeded Cowgirls (6-3, 4-2) in BU's first meet of the postseason. The winner of this meet will go on to face the winner of the No. 2-seed Fresno State and No. 3-seed TCU meet in Saturday's championship. The two squads will face off in Fences and Horsemanship before finishing the meet with Flat and Reining.
OSU holds the all-time series lead at 42-13. Baylor is in search of its first win over the Cowgirls since the 2019 Big 12 Championship, when the Bears defeated OSU to win the title 10-10 (2,856-2,635.5). The last time the two faced off was in February when then-No. 5 Oklahoma State defeated Baylor, 10-8, in Waco.
Last time out, BU faced UT Martin and No. 8 Fresno State on the road in Fresno, Calif., splitting the weekend 1-1. The green and gold grabbed a dominant 12-4 victory over the Skyhawks before falling to the Bulldogs in a closely contested 11-8 conference contest.
In Baylor's meet against UT Martin, the Bears swept the Most Outstanding Performer honors with senior Lauren Jorgensen (Fences), sophomore Britt McIlnay (Reining), senior Caroline Robelen (Flat) and junior Carley Rutledge (Horsemanship) all earning the nod. Jorgensen and senior Lauren Reid earned the MOP honors against Fresno State in Flat and Fences, respectively.
On the Jumping Seat side, the senior duo of Jorgensen and Reid leads the lineups in both Fences and Flat. Reid currently holds the program record for season score averages in a minimum of 10 meets in both Fences (85.09) and Flat (83.68) during the Maxwell Era, with Jorgensen right behind her in Fences with an average score of 84.36.
On the Western side, McIlnay and Bella Hehr lead the Bears in Reining, while Rutledge and Anna Thron return to the arena in Horsemanship.
