Flat event won its sixth consecutive event win
STILLWATER, Okla. – The 10th-ranked Baylor equestrian team dropped its Big 12 Championship semifinal matchup to No. 6 Oklahoma State, 11-9, on Friday afternoon at the Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center in Stillwater, Okla.
The Bears (3-9, 2-4) won their sixth consecutive Flat event, but it wasn't enough to beat the top-seeded Cowgirls (7-3, 4-2).
THE RUNDOWN
Starting the day off in Fences, All-Big 12 Fences team member senior Lauren Reid bested her opponent 85.33-66.66 to earn a point. Riding against an 82.66, senior Emma Covarrubias garnered an 83 on Cool to earn her point. The Cowgirls won the event 3-2.
Moving into Horsemanship, junior Carley Rutledge earned BU's sole point of the event, besting her opponent 71.17-70.33 on Patrick. Oklahoma State won the event 4-1 and led the Bears 7-3 heading into halftime.
In the indoor arena for Flat, freshman Morgan McCarthy upended OSU's 63.33 with a 71 to earn a point for the green and gold. Big 12 Flat Rider of the Year, Reid, posted an 80.66 to beat the Cowgirls' 71 and senior Caroline Robelen earned a 73.33 on Cowboy to best Oklahoma State's 68.33. Senior Lauren Jorgensen won her point 80.33-78.66. The Bears earned a dominant 4-1 event win and extended their Flat win streak to six meets in a row. OSU had the 8-7 lead heading into the last event.
Finishing the meet in Reining, senior Kalena Reynolds bested Oklahoma State's 69 with a 70.16 to earn her point. Sophomore Britt McIlnay garnered a 71.17 against the Cowgirls' 69.33 for a Baylor point. OSU won the event 3-2 and earned the victory 11-9.
