Bears and Jayhawks battle tied in league standings
WACO, Texas – No. 9 Baylor soccer closes its three-game homestand at 7 p.m. CT Friday against Kansas at Betty Lou Mays Field. The match features the annual Gold Rush promotion, where fans are encouraged to wear their best University Gold, and the annual Vamos Osos Hispanic Heritage Celebration, with free gold Vamos Osos shirts given out while supplies last. Admission to all regular-season matches at Betty Lou Mays Field is free.
The Jayhawks and Bears are tied for second in the Big 12 Conference. Baylor and Kansas join Texas Tech and BYU with seven points and 2-0-1 records, behind Houston, which began its league schedule with three straight wins over Kansas State, Iowa State and Oklahoma State.
The Bears carry their second top-10 ranking of the season into Friday's match, having climbed as high as a program-best No. 6 in the second week of the poll. It is the third top-10 ranking of the Michelle Lenard era.
Kansas returns to Waco for the first time since 2022 and faces a Baylor team that has not lost to the Jayhawks in three matches. The Bears won 3-2 in 2022, drew 0-0 in 2023 and won 3-0 last season in Lawrence. Baylor holds a slim 14-13-3 advantage in the all-time series.
The Jayhawks, 8-2-1 this season, are led by Caroline Castans, who has five goals and two assists, and Jillian Gregorski, who has six goals. Livvy Moore paces the squad with nine assists.
