Sather scores off first two shots on goal back after month-long stint at U-20 World Cup
IRVING, Texas – Baylor soccer's Noelle Sather has been named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a goal in each of her first two games back from the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland with the Canadian national team, both off her only shots on goal.
Sather, who donned the green and gold again for the first time after missing seven matches, scored the game-winner against the Cowgirls on Thursday night, striking a low shot into the bottom corner from five yards above the penalty arc in the 56th minute. She followed it up by putting the Bears on the board first against the Bearcats in the 37th minute, collecting the rebound after Cincinnati's keeper punched away an Olivia Hess corner kick, then firing a shot from nine yards into the far top corner.
The honor is the first conference weekly award of Sather's career, Baylor's 75th all-time nod and the 23rd offensive-specific award since the league added the category ahead of the 2000 season.
The Big 12 also honored Kansas' Livvy Moore as Defensive Player of the Week, Kansas' Sophia Dawe as Goalkeeper of the Week and BYU's Anna Neff as Freshman of the Week.
Baylor continues its conference schedule with Kansas on Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Field. The match begins at 7 p.m. CT and features the annual Gold Rush and Vamos Osos Hispanic heritage celebrations. Admission is free, and fans can receive a gold shirt while supplies last.
