Final Stats
Jennifer Bowers' two run home run in the top of the fourth broke a 1-1 tied and proved to be the game winner as Baylor (22-16, 4-8 Big 12) fell to the Red Raiders (16-32, 4-8 Big 12), 4-1 at Getterman Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
After Baylor stranded a pair of runners in the first and a leadoff runner in the second, Texas Tech capitalized in the top of the third. Robyn Wike led off the inning with a home run to left center, giving the Red Raiders a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Bears answered in the bottom half of the inning, as Brette Reagan led off the inning with her own towering shot to left center, tying the game at one apiece.
Reagan's home run, her team-leading seventh of the season, places her in third place all-time on the Baylor career home run list with 29, surpassing Ashley Monceaux.
The Red Raiders took back the lead in the fourth with a two run shot to right center with one out off the bat of Jennifer Bowers. That ended the night for Kirsten Shortridge (5-7), and brought in Shaina Brock. With two outs, Whitney Riley hit an RBI double to left center, giving Texas Tech a 4-1 lead.
Baylor attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, as Alex Colyer led off the inning with a single to center. With one away, KJ Freeland sacrificed Colyer to second, bringing up Brette Reagan, who walked on four pitches. That brought the tying run to the plate, but Shortridge grounded out to third to end the ballgame.
Shortridge took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings, three hits three earned runs, two walks and one strikeout. Brock pitched one inning, giving up three hits one earned run and a strikeout. Jenny Isham came on in relief, pitching a solid outing of 2.2 innings, giving up one hit and striking out four.
Baylor will wrap up the series against Texas Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day. After the game, Jordan Daniels, Maritza Martinez and Morgan Craig will be honored for their contributions to Baylor softball.
