The highly coveted arm gives BU the Southland Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year for 2027
WACO, Texas — Baylor softball head coach Glenn Moore announced the signing of Southeastern Louisiana and Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year Hallie Burns on Friday.
Burns becomes the second transfer addition from Southeastern this summer, joining her teammate, Haley Crawford, who signed with the Bears last week.
"We are excited to welcome Hallie to Baylor and add another outstanding pitcher to our staff," Moore said. "She has proven herself as one of the top pitchers in the country and has been a big part of Southeastern's success over the last couple of seasons. She is a fierce competitor with tremendous poise in the circle. We can't wait to see her in our green and gold in 2027."
Burns arrives in Waco following one of the most decorated pitching seasons in Southeastern Louisiana history. The sophomore posted a 20-5 record with a 1.68 ERA across 112.2 innings in 2026, helping guide the Lions to the program's first-ever Southland Conference regular-season championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Booneville, Miss., native was the first player in program history to be named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year. She also garnered Southland Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, First Team All-Southland recognition, all-tournament team accolades and earned Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honors twice.
Nationally, Burns ranked among NCAA Division I leaders in several categories, topping the country in hits allowed per seven innings (4.10), placing fifth in WHIP (0.86) and tenth in ERA (1.68). She won 11 consecutive decisions from March 6 through April 14 during Southeastern's school and conference-record 25-game winning streak.
Burns made an immediate impact as a freshman in 2025, appearing in 37 games with 14 starts. She finished 12-6 with a 2.66 ERA while striking out 61 batters and limiting opponents to a .220 batting average over 102.2 innings. That season, she ranked among the best in the SLC, finishing third in ERA, third in wins, third in opponent batting average and eighth in strikeouts.
Prior to her collegiate career, Burns was one of the top prep pitchers in the country out of Booneville High School. Originally committed to Ole Miss, she was named Mississippi Player of the Year and Class 3A Pitcher of the Year while earning MaxPreps All-America honors. Burns helped lead Booneville to back-to-back state championships and was also an all-state performer on the basketball court.
In addition to joining her teammate in green and gold, Burns joins SLC Newcomer of the Year Mattison Buster, who signed with the Bears early last month. The talented trio will also join forces with WAC Freshman of the Year Kenzie Farrier-Pilon and Houston transfer Madox Mitchael.
