Box Score

LAWRENCE, Kan. --- The No. 12 Baylor softball team blasted three home runs on the day to pace the Lady Bears to an 8-2 victory over Kansas in Big 12 Conference action on Saturday at Arrocha Ballpark. The victory improves Baylor to 33-9 on the season, 3-0 in Big 12 play, while Kansas falls to 25-10-1, 2-1 in conference action with the loss.

After a scoreless first two innings, Baylor broke through with a pair of unearned runs in the third inning. With two outs and runners at second and third, Nicole Wesley hit a slow roller to Kansas second baseman Sara Ramirez. With N. Wesley racing down the line, Ramirez threw wide of first base, allowing Danielle Honnette and Kelsey Sage to score to give the Lady Bears the early 2-0 lead.

The Lady Bears would then score the rest of their runs in the contest via the long ball as home runs by Courtney Oberg, Chelsi Lake and Ashley Monceaux would put the game away.

With two outs in the fourth, Oberg laced a home run over the right-center field wall, her fourth of the season, scoring Brette Reagan to give the Lady Bears a four-run cushion.

Lake would then put the game away with a two-out, three-run blast in the fifth as Baylor grabbed a commanding 7-0 lead. On the first pitch in the at bat from Jayhawks pitcher Kassie Humphreys, Lake hit a towering blast that cleared the football facility practice fence well beyond the left field wall to score N. Wesley and Reagan for her seventh home run of the season and 41st of her career.

The blast allowed Lake to pass another milestone as the hit was the 200th of her career as she becomes only the seventh player in school history to collect at least 200 hits in a career.

Ashley Monceaux would put the finishing touches on the win with a solo shot in the seventh, the 11th home run of the season for the Baylor senior, to cap an 8-2 Baylor victory.

Kansas would manage its only runs of the contest with a pair of RBI singles in the fifth; however, the Jayhawks were unable to score again as Baylor improved to 12-20 all-time against KU.

Lisa Ferguson picked up the win to improve to 15-4 on the season and 3-0 in conference play after allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out seven.

Humphreys took the loss for Kansas and fell to 12-4 on the season after allowing seven runs on five hits in five innings of work.

Sage collected two hits in the win while Reagan added two runs in the victory.

Baylor will look to pick up the sweep as the Lady Bears and Jayhawks conclude the two-game series on Sunday, April 1, at 12:00 p.m.
