Kim Wilmoth Named CoSIDA Academic All-American

WACO, Texas-For the second time in her career, Baylor softball player Kim Wilmoth has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team the College Sports Information Directors of America announced today. Wilmoth, a junior shortstop from Garland, Texas, was a second-team selection and was the only Big 12 Conference student-athlete to make one of the three teams.

The selection marks the second time in her career Wilmoth has been selected for the award, as she was a third-team selection following her sophomore season. In three years at Baylor, Wilmoth has compiled a G.P.A. of 3.97 while majoring in accounting.

The honor just adds to a long list of academic and athletic accomplishments for Wilmoth, as she is a two-time first-team academic all-Big 12 Conference selection and has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of her first six semesters at Baylor.

Wilmoth has also been tabbed twice for first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District VI honors, including a selection to the team this year. She joined junior pitcher Cristin Vitek, who earned second-team honors, on the academic all-district team this season.

Throughout her three years, Wilmoth has combined academic success with athletic success on the field. She was a second team all-Big 12 Conference selection last season and earned a selection on the NCAA Waco Regional all-tournament team following her performance in the 2004 NCAA Softball Championships.

This season, Wilmoth was third on the team with a .287 average, 28 runs scored and 24 stolen bases. She is currently Baylor's career leader in stolen bases with 66.

The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America; a 2,000-member organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
