BU starts the season on Sept. 7-8 at the Bomb Darts Birds Collegiate
Waco, Texas- Baylor's men's golf opens the 2026-27 season in Chandler, Arizona for the Bomb Darts Birds Collegiate hosted by USC.
The season-opening event marks a new era for the program as Jean-Paul Hebert takes over as head coach after Mike McGraw retired in January after 12 seasons leading the program. Hebert isn't new to Texas, a native of Houston and University of Texas Alumni, he arrives from UNLV where last season he led the Rebels to a Mountain West Conference Championship and a berth into the NCAA Bryan Regional. Hebert is looking forward to watching his new squad compete against good competition in Arizona.
"Needless to say, we are all ready to get the ball rolling this season, and the desert is a good place to start. There are many things to be excited about this season, including the make-up of our team. We've got a good group that includes mix of talent, experience and youth, all of whom love Baylor and love to compete."
The Bomb Darts Birds Collegiate will be played at Whirlwind Golf Club with 13 teams in the field. The tournament features programs from the Sun Belt, Pac-12, Mountain West, C-USA, WCC and MAC, along with representation from three of the four Power Four conferences Baylor will be the lone program from the Big 12. The field also includes a pair of teams (USC and Stanford) who qualified for the NCAA Championships last season.
The Bears' opening lineup features a strong mix of experience and youth, with Alex Heard, Davis Ovard and Jonas Appel providing a veteran presence. Appel, entering his fifth year, will look to build on a strong finish to last season after qualifying individually for NCAA Regionals in the spring. Sophomore Tyler Sanford will make his third career start, while freshman Chase Yenser, a native of Pennsylvania, will make his collegiate debut in the No. 2 spot for the Bears. Baylor will also bring a sixth player to Arizona, as Patrick Babb will compete individually.
