Bears welcome Oklahoma State to Betty Lou Mays Field ahead of 16-senior ceremony
WACO, Texas – No. 11 Baylor soccer returns to Betty Lou Mays Field for Senior Night at 7 p.m. CT Thursday, hosting Oklahoma State after opening Big 12 play last Friday with a 1-1 draw at then-No. 9 West Virginia. The match streams on ESPN+, and admission is free on the Banks of the Brazos.
The Bears enters the second week of conference play ranked No. 7 in RPI, the best mark in the Big 12. The Bears own a Quad 1 win over No. 20 Texas in Austin and the draw with No. 13 West Virginia. Texas State, the only team to beat Baylor this season, is ranked No. 52 in the selection rankings and has one Quad 1 opponent left, Utah State, next week.
Baylor's schedule ranks 12th nationally in RPI strength of schedule, a figure that includes the Big 12 opener at West Virginia and its seven non-conference wins, the most since 2018 and the most in Lenard's tenure.
Thursday's match is the 33rd between the two founding members of the Big 12, with Baylor leading the series 15-12-5 after snapping a two-match Oklahoma State winning streak with a 2-0 victory last year in Stillwater.
Sonora Defini and Keaton Mitchell lead the Cowgirls with four goals each, and Emmy Hedden has four assists through nine games. In goal, Avery Bass and Logan Marks have split time, playing 405 minutes each, with Bass holding a 0.44 goals-against average and Marks a 1.78 average, combining for three shutouts.
Lauren Omholt tied Grace White for the team lead in goals with her fourth in the 78th minute against West Virginia, and Theresa McCullough leads the Bears with four assists. Azul Alvarez has played every minute in goal, appearing in all nine matches with a 1.00 goals-against average and 28 saves.
After the match, head coach Michelle Lenard will honor 16 seniors with five home regular-season matches remaining. Joining Lenard and sport program administrator Katie Smith on the field will be Taylor Evans, Natalie Vatter, Kate Runyon, Skylar Zinnecker, Ava Verplancke, Kaitlin Swann, Caroline Staubach, Lauren Omholt, Theresa McCullough, Aryanna Jimison, Riley Franklin, Callie Conrad, Nyela Calnek, Chloe Adams, Bella James and Adriana Merriam.
