STORYLINES
LEADING OFF
• Baylor Baseball remains home for an important weekend series against Texas Tech in Waco. Six of the Bears' next seven games will be played along the banks of the Brazos at Magnolia Field at Baylor Ballpark.
• BU snapped its six-game losing streak on Tuesday night against UT Arlington with a 6-2 win in a weather-shortened six-inning affair. Redshirt senior 1B Tyce Armstrong hit two home runs to lead the Bears offensively past his former team.
• Baylor currently sits in a three-way tie for ninth place in the Big 12 standings at 9-12, alongside Kansas State and Utah. The top 12 teams in the conference will qualify for the Big 12 Tournament; BU is two games ahead of 12th-place Arizona (7-14) and three games clear of 13th-place Texas Tech (6-15) entering the weekend.
• The Bears have 11 comeback victories in 2026 and have come from behind in each of their last five wins.
TAKING ON TEXAS TECH
• BU trails the all-time series, 90-98, against Texas Tech, but is 4-5 against the Red Raiders under fourth-year head coach Mitch Thompson.
• BU has won two of the last five series against Tech, including the most recent meeting in Waco (2024), when the Bears won a weather-resumed game and the series finale on Sunday, March 17.
• The Bears and Red Raiders have played a doubleheader in two of their last three meetings.
PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS
• Fri. May 1 • 6:30 p.m. CT • RHP Lucas Davenport (4-2, 4.57 ERA) vs. RHP Kaysen Raineri (4-0, 6.75 ERA)
• Sat. May 2 • 2:00 p.m. CT • RHP Zack Wallace (3-4, 5.05 ERA) vs. RHP Adam Hayes (2-3, 7.27 ERA)
• Sun. May 3 • 1:00 p.m. CT • LHP Ethan Calder (3-5, 4.77 ERA) vs. RHP Donovan Becerra (0-0, 11.57 ERA)
SWIPING RIGHT (ON THE BASES)
• Through 44 games, the Bears have stolen 77 bases, the most by a BU team at this point in a season since at least 2003.
• 77 stolen bases is also the most in a single season since the Bears stole 96 in 2012.
• Baylor has stolen five or more bases five times in 2026, and have stolen multiple bases in 20 games this year.
• 2026 is the first season since 2013 that BU has had three or more players reach double figures in stolen bases (Sanders, 18; Janusek, 16; Riebock, 10).
• Baylor ranks fourth in the Big 12 with 77 stolen bases, but its 34 bags in conference games ranks third, just three shy of the league lead.
THE TYCE IS RIGHT
• Redshirt senior 1B Tyce Armstrong is having one of the best slugging seasons in Baylor history, as the Magnolia, Texas, native crushed his 17th and 18th home runs of the year on Tuesday against UT Arlington.
• The multi-HR effort was his fifth of the year, and second consecutive, joining his three-home run day on Opening Day against New Mexico State (Feb. 13), a two-homer game at Houston (March 27), a two-homer effort against UTSA (April 14) which included a dramatic game-tying blast in the bottom of the 12th inning, and two blasts at Arizona State (April 26) in the series finale.
• Armstrong is fifth in the Big 12 with 18 home runs and ranks eighth in the league with 50 RBIs.
• Armstrong's 18 blasts are tied for the fourth-most in Baylor single-season history. He sits just three home runs shy of the all-time record, held by Charley Carter (21, 1998).
• Armstrong's 18 home runs are the most by a Bear since Chris Durbin hit 18 in 2003.
• Armstrong's 18 homers mark the 11th time since 2012 that a Bear has hit double-digit homers in a single season.
• Armstrong is the third player under fourth-year head coach Mitch Thompson to hit double-digit bombs in a season, joining Wesley Jordan's 10 in 2025 and now Brady Janusek's 10 in 2026.
• Armstrong and Janusek are the first set of BU teammates to each hit 10+ home runs in a season since 2021 (Andy Thomas, 11; Jared McKenzie, 10) and their 28 combined homers are the most by two Bears since 2009, when Shaver Hansen (17) and Aaron Miller (12) combined to hit 29.
DIAPER DANDY
• Freshman OF Brady Janusek is putting up one of the top seasons by any freshman in the Big 12, leading the league with 10 home runs and tied for the conference lead with 16 stolen bases among first-year players.
• Janusek sits just one home run shy of tying Baylor's freshman single-season HR record (Max Muncy, 11, 2010).
• Janusek sits eight stolen bases shy of the program's all-time freshman record, set by Mike Robison in 1988 (24).
DIALING UP THE STRIKES
• Senior LHP Ethan Calder saw his 16-inning streak without allowing a walk snapped in Sunday's finale at Cincinnati.
• Of his 29 career starts, Calder has never walked more than three batters, and has allowed two walks or less 25 times. Calder has made 17 career starts with just one walk allowed or less.
• Calder worked his 13th career start of at least five innings with three or fewer earned runs allowed, and fifth such start of 2026, in the finale against the Bearcats.
• It was also his fourth start of the year with five or more strikeouts.
• Calder threw 4.2 innings without a walk in the series finale against TCU.
• Over his last five starts (28 innings), Calder has allowed just three walks.
FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH
• Through 44 games, 45% of Baylor's total plate appearances have been taken by players with less than 55 career PA's entering the 2026 season. True or redshirt freshmen account for 35% of the team's total plate appearances.
• That group also accounts for 43% of the team's hits, including 35% from true or redshirt freshmen.
• 48% of Baylor's hits have come from players who have previously redshirted in their careers.
• 43% of Baylor's IP this season have been thrown by players who had thrown less than five career innings at the Div. I level.
• Baylor has nine true freshmen on its 2026 roster and an additional four redshirt freshmen.
• This year, 19 Bears have made their Baylor debuts (9 hitters, 10 pitchers), including 10 true or redshirt freshmen.
