Armstrong’s three-grand slam, 12-RBI game up for Best Single-Game Performance
WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball redshirt senior first baseman Tyce Armstrong has been nominated for a 2026 ESPY Award, as announced by ESPN.
Armstrong's three-grand slam, 12-RBI performance against New Mexico State on Feb. 13, 2026, has been nominated in the category of Best Single-Game Performance, alongside the Miami Heat's Bam Adebayo (83-point game), Notre Dame women's basketball's Hannah Hidalgo (NCAA-record 16 steals) and Los Angeles Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani (three home runs, 10 strikeouts).
A two-time All-American following his record-breaking 2026 campaign, Armstrong set Baylor's single-season home run record with 24 homers on the season. His outstanding year got kickstarted on Opening Day, as he became just the second player in NCAA history to hit three grand slams in a single game. Armstrong's three home runs tied a BU single-game program record and his 12 RBIs topped Shea Langeliers' 11 from 2019 as the new program standard.
No player in Major League Baseball history has ever hit three grand slams in one game, and only once has a single team ever accomplished the feat as the New York Yankees did so on August 25, 2011. Armstrong joined Louisville's Jim LaFountain as the only players in NCAA history to do so, as LaFountain hit four home runs, including three grand slams and two in the same inning, with 14 RBIs against Western Kentucky on March 24, 1976.
For his performance, Armstrong was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, Baseball America's National First Baseman of the Week, Perfect Game's National Player of the Week and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Co-National Hitter of the Week.
In addition to his two All-America honors, Armstrong was also named a 2026 Academic All-American as he sported a 3.81 GPA as a sports management graduate student at Baylor. He is the sixth player in BU history to earn both Academic and on-field All-America honors in the same season.
The 2026 ESPYS will be hosted by comedian Marcello Hernández and will be broadcast live on ABC at 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday, July 15, from the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City. Armstrong is expected to attend the event.
