BU’s Moore collects his 1,100th-career win
ORLANDO, Fla. – Baylor softball delivered an emphatic response Saturday afternoon, defeating No. 22 UCF, 12-3, at the UCF Softball Complex.
Glenn Moore's 1,100th career win marked Baylor's first victory over a ranked opponent since May of 2024, when it beat No. 4 Florida in the Gainesville Regional in May of 2024.
Saide Ross picked up her fifth win of the season, tying a career high, while Gianna Gusman blasted her first-career homerun on a second-inning grand slam.
RUNDOWN
Baylor struck early in the opening inning when Amber Toven singled and Karynton Dawson walked before Faith Piper delivered a two-run double to left-center field to give the Bears a quick 2-0 lead.
The Bears exploded for four runs in the second inning to extend the advantage. After loading the bases with a walk, hit-by-pitch and another free pass, Gianna Gusman launched a grand slam to deep center field, pushing Baylor's lead to 6-0.
The offensive surge continued in the third when Leah Cran opened the frame with a solo home run before Piper doubled again and later scored on a sacrifice bunt and RBI groundout. Amber Toven capped the inning with a bases-loaded walk to make it 9-0.
UCF responded with two runs in the bottom of the third, capitalizing on a Baylor error, and added another run in the fifth to trim the lead to 9-3.
The Bears added insurance in the sixth when Kaci West lined an RBI single down the right-field line to score Dawson. Baylor tacked on two more runs in the seventh after a throwing error allowed Brooklyn Carter and Gusman to score, sealing the 12-3 victory.
