WACO, Texas -- Baylor men's golf continues its fall schedule this week at the SMU Invitational, hosted on Sunday-Tuesday at Trinity Forest Golf Club. Rounds on Sunday and Monday will start at 9 a.m., and on Tuesday it will conclude starting at 8:30 a.m.
Baylor returns to Trinity Forest for the first time since 2022, when it posted a top-three team finish.
The Bears will compete with seven players, including a five-member lineup that includes Vincent Stjernfeldt, Jonas Appel, Davis Ovard, Alex Heard and Sam Dossey. Individuals competing will be Evan Vo and freshman Patrick Babb making his collegiate debut.
Head coach Mike McGraw's squad heads into Dallas looking to build on its early fall performances. Appel, the senior leader of the group, paced the Bears a year ago in scoring average (73.25) and continues to anchor the lineup. Appel leads the team with a 72.67 average through six rounds in 2025, including a pair of par-or-better rounds.
Stjernfeldt has fired an average of 73 through one tournament and three rounds, while Heard ranks third on the team with a 73.3 average, which featured a 67 in the Folds of Honor Collegiate to open the year. Ovard has totaled a 73.67 scoring average, with Vo sporting a 75.67 average and Dossey a 76.33 average, with each playing in one tournament to open 2025.
The Bears opened the year with an 11th place finish in the Folds of Honor Collegiate on Sept. 8-10, before a 14th place finish in the Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club on Sept. 19-21.
Trinity Forest Golf Club, home to multiple collegiate and professional events, presents a strategic test with its wide fairways, undulating greens and demanding short-game areas. Conditions in Dallas are expected to be typical of early fall, with shifting winds and firm greens creating added challenges. The course is a par 72 that plays 7,617 yards.
Baylor joins a competitive field that includes host SMU and several nationally ranked programs from across the region. The 54-hole event begins with 36 holes on Sunday, followed by the final rounds on Monday and Tuesday. Baylor is joined by Houston, UNT, Sam Houston, Abilene Christian, Rice, USC, UTSA, Furman, Louisiana-Lafayette, Cal Poly, South Alabama, ETSU and UTRGV.
