Bears looking to build off best finish of fall season in Dallas.
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Baylor Men's Golf is back on the road after three days at home, heading to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the Big 12 Match Play Tournament. The three-day event runs from Oct. 12-14 at The Country Club of Salt Lake City and features all 16 Big 12 programs competing in a match play format.
The Bears enter the week ranked as the No. 13 seed and will compete in Pool D alongside No. 4 Kansas, No. 5 TCU and No. 12 West Virginia. The 16-team field is divided into four pools, with teams seeded by the Big 12 coaches. Oklahoma State earned the top overall seed, followed by Texas Tech, Arizona State and Kansas.
At the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, Baylor rallied to their best finish of the season, with the Bears finishing fourth out of 17 teams at 20-under par, highlighted by a 13-under-par final round, their lowest round of the season. Seniors Alex Heard and Jonas Appel led the way, both finishing tied for eighth individually, while Tyler Sanford and Davis Ovard finished tied for 26th.
The Big 12 Match Play Tournament will bring a different format for the Bears, who have competed in three stroke-play events to open the season. Each team match consists of five individual matches, with players earning one point for a win and half a point for a tie. The team with the most individual points earns three points toward the pool standings, while teams that finish tied receive one point each.
The tournament will begin Monday with two rounds of pool play, followed by the final round of pool play Tuesday morning. The four pool winners will advance to the semifinal round Tuesday afternoon, with the championship match scheduled for Wednesday morning. The remaining teams will also compete in placement matches to close out the tournament.
Competition begins Monday at 9 a.m. CT, with the second round scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT. Results and live scoring for the event can be found on Scoreboard by Clippd.
