Bears make 28 birdies and an eagle during final round enroute, to lowest round of the season.
DALLAS, Texas — Baylor Men's Golf wrapped up its third event of the fall season Tuesday, finishing fourth at the Trinity Forest Invitational after a stellar 13-under-par final round.
The final round was covered in red, as the Bears carded 28 birdies and an eagle across all seven players in the field.
"The guys were really in control of what they were doing this week, and you have to be that way at Trinity Forest," head coach Jean-Paul Hebert said. "I was happy to see the strong final round from the team. Everybody chipped in today, and Alex and Jonas were solid from start to finish."
Baylor finished fourth out of 17 teams, with four Bears placing inside the top 30 individually. Senior Alex Heard posted a 4-under 68 in the final round to help him finish tied for eighth. Notably, Heard also made an eagle on the second hole, opening his round 3-under through his first two holes.
Fifth-year senior Jonas Appel also finished tied for eighth after playing steady golf throughout the week and posting red figures in all three rounds.
Sophomore Tyler Sanford and senior Davis Ovard both finished the week at 2-under, tied for 26th. Sanford and Ovard each closed with 3-under 69s, with both rounds featuring five birdies and two bogeys. Their final-round 69s helped each of them move seven spots up the leaderboard.
Chase Yenser closed out the Baylor lineup, finishing the week at 4-over and tied for 53rd. Yenser finished the tournament with a 2-under 70 in the final round, moving 14 spots up the leaderboard.
Jack Murphy and Patrick Babb both made the trip competing individually. Babb opened the week with a 2-over 74 that included three birdies.
Murphy, a junior transfer from the University of Washington, finished the week at 3-over in his Baylor debut. After opening with a 77, Murphy bounced back with a 2-under 70 in the second round and an even-par 72 in the final round to finish tied for 48th.
"It's definitely a tournament we can be proud of and one we can build on moving forward," Hebert said.
The Trinity Forest Invitational marked Baylor's final stroke-play event of the fall. The Bears will have a short week back in Waco before returning to the road and heading to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the Big 12 Match Play Championship.
