THE RUNDOWN BEAUMONT, Texas - No. 13/15 Baylor softball (37-9) won its last nonconference game of the regular season, defeating the Lamar Lady Cardinals (23-24), 4-1, on Tuesday afternoon at LU Softball Complex.
Gia Rodoni (13-1) took the win in the circle for the Lady Bears, working the first 4.0 innings with four hits one run, and four strikeouts.
Kelsee Selman picked up her fifth save of the season, tying for the third-most in a single-season in program history.
The Lady Bears plated the game's first run in the top of the second, with Ari Hawkins getting the rally rolling with a full count walk, stealing second on the next play.
Maddison Kettler cracked her first hit of the game, a single through the right side, driving in Hawkins from second to give BU the 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals scored the team's lone run of the game in the bottom of the third on a pair of hits and a wild pitch, tying the game at 1-1.
The lead was short lived, with Baylor responding in the top of the fourth. Shelby Friudenberg launched the first pitch she saw over the fence in right-center, giving the Lady Bears the 2-1 lead.
BU created more separation in the top of the sixth, with Hawkins leading off with a single to left field, followed by Kettler's third single of the game.
A sac bunt by Shelby McGlaun moved both runners in scoring position, setting up for an RBI single for Caitlin Charlton.
Sydney Christensen drove in Kettler on an RBI groundout, putting BU on top, 4-1.
Selman kept the Cardinals off the board in the final two frames, securing the win for the Lady Bears.
