THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas - No. 13/14 Baylor softball (31-6, 4-1 Big 12) clinched its fifth-straight Big 12 series win, sweeping a doubleheader with Texas Tech on Friday evening at Getterman Stadium.

The Lady Bears took a 5-1 win in game one and pulled away late to a 6-3 win in game two.

In the early game, the Baylor bats kept the pressure on throughout, giving run support for Kelsee Selman (16-3) to work a masterful outing in the circle. The senior worked 6.1 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run, while spinning a season-high 11 strikeouts.

The Baylor offense took the early lead, with Lindsey Cargill reaching safely on a fielder's choice.

A single to left field by Taylor Ellis moved Cargill into scoring position at second.

Sydney Christensen came through with the two-out RBI single up the middle, scoring Cargill from second to give BU the 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Cargill led off with a single through the right side of the infield.

Cargill stole second, moving to third on a fly out by Christensen for the second out.

After the fly out, the Red Raiders turned their back walking the ball back into the circle, giving Cargill a window to steal home, adding another run for the Lady Bears.

Keeping the pressure on in the bottom of the fifth, Ari Hawkins took a four-pitch, one-out walk, stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error on the throw down.

Shelby Friudenberg worked a full count walk, bringing up Shelby McGlaun.

"Goose" McGlaun drilled a three-run bomb over the higher portion of the wall in dead center field, emptying the bases and giving BU the 5-0 lead.

The Red Raiders cut a run back on a solo shot to lead off the seventh, but after recording her 11th strikeout of the game, Selman was replaced by McGlaun, with the freshman forcing a strikeout and a pop fly to end the game.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Gia Rodoni (10-1) was tested early, but the steady offense pulled through again, with Selman closing the final frame to earn her third save of the season.

Rodoni worked the first 6.0 innings, allowing just four hits, three runs, and striking out five. The Lady Bears took the early lead in the bottom of the second, with McGlaun drilling her second home run of the day, a line drive solo shot over the left field wall.

Ellis kept the two out rally rolling, legging out an infield single.

Christensen dropped in a hooking single down the right field line, moving Ellis from first to third.

Maddison Kettler drove an infield single to the shortstop, scoring Ellis to give BU the 2-0 lead.

The Red Raiders were able to tie it back on a sac fly and wild pitch in the top of the fourth, but the Lady Bears took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth.

Cargill led off with a bunt single, advancing to second on a passed ball. Ellis moved Cargill to third on a sac bunt down the first base line, with Cargill beating the throw home on a bouncing ground ball in the infield.

Carrying a 3-2 lead into the fifth, the Red Raiders cut it back even again, hitting a solo home run to tie the game at 3-3.

Staying even heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Bear bats broke through in a big way.

Kettler and Jessie Scroggins led off the frame with back-to-back singles, with both runners advancing into scoring position on the throw into the infield.

Kyla Walker roped a single over the defense into right center, scoring Kettler to break the tie.

Ari Hawkins kept the rally going, driving a single into the left field grass to score Scroggins. The Texas Tech left fielder dropped the ball on the transfer to throw, allowing Walker to score on the error to push the BU lead out to 6-3.

Selman worked the final frame, striking out two of the last three Red Raiders to close out the series win for BU.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Cargill jumped from a tie for 10th to a tie for 3rd on Baylor's career hit streak list. She now trails Kathy Shelton (16, 2011-2012) for the No. 2 spot.
- Cargill's three hits bumped her career total to 223, passing Sarah Caudle (222, 2000-2003) to take sole possession of No. 9 on BU's career hits leader list.
- Shelby Friudenberg saw her on-base streak end at 33. The junior slugger holds sole possession of the No. 2 spot in the Baylor program's record book, trailing only Kaitlyn Thumann for the program record, who had a 44-game streak stretching across the 2013-2014 seasons.

TOP QUOTES
"It was tough. I thought both teams fought really hard. They certainly gave us a run, and we made some mistakes as well, but credit them for forcing those mistakes. I thought our offense kept fighting back. Every time we dug a hole, we kept fighting back. A couple kids that struggled early came through big in the end. Having seen [Texas Tech's Kassidy] Scott for that many pitches, I thought we would eventually get to her. But she threw the ball pretty well." - Baylor head coach Glenn Moore

"I think the stress has kind of gone down. At the beginning of the season, I was pressing really hard trying to do too much. I kind of just relax at the plate, and good things are happening. I thought Getterman might win again. I thought the wind might get us again, but I'm just thankful it went out and thankful to score runs." - Baylor freshman Shelby "Goose" McGlaun

"I just knew I had to come out and be dominant and I knew we would score runs. I just kind of went after batters and Coach [Britni] Newman did a good job calling pitches." - Baylor senior Kelsee Selman

STAT OF THE GAME
23-3 - Baylor's record in games where Kelsee Selman has pitched, with the senior notching a career-high 11 strikeouts in game one and adding two in game two. Selman has 111 strikeouts this season, the first on the BU pitching staff to hit the milestone in 2017 and the first 100+ strikeout season in Selman's collegiate career.

WHAT'S NEXT
Baylor will go for the sweep of Texas Tech on Saturday, April 1, at 1:05 p.m. at Getterman Stadium.
