Softball Downs Texas Tech in Five, 15-2

LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 20 Baylor softball (42-12, 12-4 Big 12) launched four home runs, including two from Jessie Scroggins, to take a 15-2 win over Texas Tech (23-28, 6-8 Big 12) in five innings on Saturday afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field.

Kelsee Selman (5-3) took over in the bottom of the second, working in relief of Kendall Potts and pitching the final 3.1 innings, allowing no runs or hits and striking out six.

The Baylor offense jumped to an early start once again, with Jessie Scroggins leading off the game with a solo shot to dead centerfield.

After Sarah Smith drew a walk, Linsey Hays roped a double to right field.

Shelby Friudenberg reached safely on a fielder's choice, bringing up Ari Hawkins with two outs.

With a 2-0 count, Hawkins crushed a three-run no-doubter to left-center, opening up a 4-0 lead.

Back in the top of the second, Robin Landrith led-off with a walk, setting up Scroggins for her second home run of the day, a two-run line drive over the fence in right.

Kyla Walker dropped a bunt single on the next play, stealing second, and advancing to third on a throwing error.

A sac-fly from Hays would score Walker from third, pushing the Baylor lead to 7-0.

The Red Raiders cut back in the home half, plating a pair on a two-run home run to narrow the lead to five.

The Baylor bats never took the foot off the gas, answering back in the top of the sixth.

Hawkins led off with a single, switching places with Lindsey Cargill on a fielder's choice.

Caitlin Charlton roped a line shot into right field, with the ball getting behind TTU's right fielder for a triple, scoring Cargill.

Scroggins drew an intentional walk, putting runners on the corners.

Walker picked up another bunt single, with the throw to first going wide and to the fence, allowing her to advance to second and bringing home both Charlton and Scroggins to give the Lady Bears a 10-2 advantage.

Hays led off the top of the fourth with a solo shot to left field, pushing the lead to 11-2.

Back in the fifth the Lady Bears kept at it, with Scroggins leading off with a single to left field. Walker would push her to third with a single to right.

A full count walk to Riley Browder loaded the bases, prompting another showcase for the Baylor bench depth.

Gia Rodoni sent an RBI single back up the middle, followed by an RBI single to the shortstop by Jessica Tomchesson, beating the throw to first.

Sydney Christensen rounded out the four-run inning with a single to right field, scoring two to give Baylor the 15-2 advantage, standing as the final score.
