March 12, 2016 Box Score
HONOLULU, Hawaii - No. 21/22 Baylor softball (19-5) finished with a perfect 5-0 record on the weekend, defeating the hosting Hawaii Rainbow Wahine (12-14), 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Heather Stearns (9-2) would go the distance, pitching her second complete game of the weekend. Stearns allowed just one hit and no runs, shutting out Hawaii for the win.
The Lady Bears plated three runs on nine hits, but got off to a slow start pushing the first run across on a passed ball, with Shelby Friudenberg scoring after leading off with a single.
The two sides stayed locked up through most of the game until the top of the sixth, when Baylor picked up a pair of insurance runs for some breathing room.
Friudenberg picked up her second hit of the day, followed by a single from Jessie Scroggins. Sydney Christensen picked up a pinch-hit single, loading the bases and bringing up Caitlin Charlton.
Charlton, hitless on the weekend, broke through with a two-RBI double stroked down the third base line into the corner, scoring both Friudenberg and Scroggins to extend the BU lead to 3-0.
Stearns was lights out down the stretch, retiring the final six batters to secure the victory for BU.
