WACO, Texas - No. 21 Baylor softball (2-1) will host the 15th Getterman Classic this weekend, Feb. 19-21, welcoming Liberty, Northwestern State, and North Texas to Waco to round out the four-team tournament field.
Northwestern State and North Texas kick off tournament play on Friday morning at 10 a.m., with Baylor opening its run in the tournament later that afternoon, facing NSU at 3 p.m.
BU will go on to play Liberty on Friday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. before closing out the round-robin opening round on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against North Texas.
Bracket play will being Saturday afternoon, with the No. 1 seed vs. the No. 4 at 3 p.m., followed by the No. 2 seed vs. the No. 3 at 5:30 p.m.
The tournament play will conclude on Sunday, beginning with the consolation game at 9:30 a.m., followed by the championship bout at noon.
GETTERMAN CLASSIC NOTES
- The Getterman Classic will mark the 15th year of the annual tournament, hosted by Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
- The tournament is named after Ted and Sue Getterman, lifelong supporters of the program and instrumental benefactors to starting the Baylor softball program and funding the world-class Getterman Stadium, also carrying their namesake.
- Baylor has won the Getterman Classic 10 times, including the last two seasons, carrying a 63-9 all-time record in the tournament.
- Northwestern State is making its fourth appearance in the Getterman Classic (2002, 2004, 2009) and has an all-time record of 4-12 in the tournament.
- North Texas is making its second appearance in the tournament field (2004) and carries an 0-5 all-time record in the Getterman Classic.
- Liberty is making its first appearance in the tournament.
- 2016 marks the ninth time in the tournament's history that the field will feature four teams.
- An all-tournament team consisting of 12 players will be selected and presented following the championship game on Sunday.
