THE RUNDOWN
LAREDO, Texas - The Baylor men's golf team claimed its third tournament title of the 2014-15 season by winning the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club. The Bears entered Saturday's final round tied for the lead and shot 3-under-par 285 to finish at 15-under 849, three strokes in front of Houston (-12) in second place.
Andreas Gjesteby shot a season-low 67 in the final round to jump 32 spots on the leaderboard and finish in a tie for 11th at 3-under 213. Filippo Zucchetti shot even-par 72 to earn his best finish of the season, tied for sixth place at 4-under 212.
Kyle Jones finished fourth at 7-under 209 after shooting 1-over 73 in the final round, recording his fourth top-five finish in as many tournaments this spring. Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen tied for 20th place at even-par 216 after shooting 74 on Saturday, and Frederik Andersen tied for 50th at 6-over 222 after a final round 73.
Nick Thornton and Jackson Heazel played as individuals. Thornton shot a final round of 2-under 70 to finish tied for 20th at even-par 216, while Heazel shot 73 for the third straight round and finished tied for 34th at 3-over 219.
HIGHLIGHTS
? Baylor claimed its third tournament title of the 2014-15 season - BU has now won the 2014 Gopher Invitational, the 2015 Oak Hills Invitational and the 2015 Border Olympics.
? Baylor's three tournament titles are its most in a season since 2008-09, which was also the last time Baylor won the Border Olympics.
? Jones and Zucchetti tied for the tournament lead in par-4 scoring average at 4-under 3.87.
? Heazel tied for the second-best par-3 scoring average at 2-under 2.83, while Bjerch-Andresen shot 2.92 on par-3s, tying for fourth-best in the field.
? Gjesteby tied for the tournament lead at 8-under 4.33 on par-5s, and he recorded 15 birdies across 54 holes, tied for second-most in the 102-player field.
? Jones and Zucchetti each had 13 birdies, tied for fifth-most in the field.
? Andersen made 42 pars across 54 holes, the second-most in the tournament.
? Bjerch-Andresen was one of just two players to make birdie on No. 12.
STAT OF THE DAY
32 - the number of spots Andreas Gjesteby climbed on the leaderboard after shooting a team-best and season-best 5-under 67 in the final round. It was the lowest final round in the 102-player field.
