WACO - The No. 25 Baylor softball team (31-19, 8-13) registered 10 hits and stole six bases en route to a 7-0 win over Iowa State (14-34, 2-17) Friday night at Getterman Stadium.

"We played well, put the game in motion and made them have to defend us," head coach Glenn Moore. "Courtney (Repka) threw well and was really efficient tonight, so this series is off to a good start for us, but we know Iowa State will show up ready tomorrow."

Kayce Walker helped pace the offense, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two stolen bases, while Kathy Shelton became the first Baylor player to steal three bases in a game since Shelbi Redfearn did so on March 24, 2011. It also marked the most steals for Shelton since swiping three on Feb. 25, 2011.

Repka (16-11) earned her fourth complete-game shutout of the year, allowing just three hits, no walks and striking out four.

Baylor jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first with Shelton and Walker leading off with singles to put runners on the corners. Kaitlynn Thumann stepped in with one out and delivered the first of two RBI on the night with a sac fly down the left field line for a 1-0 lead, and Walker came around to score on the next at-bat when Megan Turk doubled to left for a two-run advantage.

The Lady Bears added two more in the third beginning with Thumann's RBI single that brought Shelton in from third for the 3-0 lead. With two outs in the inning, and runners on first and third, Thumann broke for second and forced a throw from the catcher that went into center field, allowing Walker to come home for a 4-0 advantage.

BU plated another run home in the fifth on the third of four Iowa State errors on the night. With Walker and Holly aboard via singles, Thumann hit into a fielder's choice that saw the flip to short go for the out at second, but Walker forced the throw home that sailed over the catcher's head for a 5-0 lead.

Baylor made it a 7-0 advantage in the sixth, beginning with back-to-back singles from Jordan Strickland and Clare Hosack. Melissa Schreck loaded the bases with her first single of the season, and two more came into score on a fielder's choice from Shelton. The junior hit a chopper to short that was fired back home and over the catcher's head, allowing Walker and pinch runner Jill Reid to score for the seven-run cushion.

Game two of the series is set for 2 pm on Saturday afternoon at Getterman Stadium.
