The No. 9 Baylor softball team (12-2) made a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning stand up the rest of the way, defeating North Texas (5-7) 2-1 on day three of the Fairfield Inn North-Texas Shootout.

The Lady Bears got stellar relief work from Courtney Repka (5-0), who came on for Whitney Canion, and threw 4.0 innings allowing one hit, one unearned run and striking out three.

Canion suffered a torn ACL in the third inning while planting on first base. Her return is questionable for the remainder of the season.

Baylor jumped out to the early lead in the second when Delaney Guy scored on a wild pitch for the first run of the game. Guy had reached on a fielding error and advanced to second on an infield hit from Clare Hosack. After reaching third on a fielder's choice, the wild pitch sent Guy home and Kelsi Kettler around from first to third. Sydney Wilson then delivered a long sac fly to center to score Kettler for the 2-0 advantage.

Repka retired the first 10 batters she saw when entering in the fourth before Lisa Johnson reached on an error at second with one out in the seventh. Brooke Foster followed with a single through the left side to put two runners on. A grounder from Maddelyn Fraley was bobbled by Guy at short and then overthrown to first, allowing Johnson to score and cut the lead in half. Repka settled in and got the final two outs, including a game-ending strikeout to wrap up the win.

The Baylor offense mustered five hits on the day, each coming from a different Lady Bear.

Baylor will next travel to the Citrus Classic in Orlando, Fla., on March 2-4. The Lady Bears will open with No. 21 Oregon on Friday at 3:45 p.m. CT and then face No. 24 North Carolina at 6 p.m. CT.
