WACO, Texas - The No. 9 Baylor softball team (8-1) picked up a pair shutout wins, defeating Northwestern State (2-8) 3-0 in game one and following with another 3-0 victory in game two.

"Our pitching staff was fantastic again tonight," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We aren't quite clicking yet offensively, but it's only a matter of time."

GAME ONE
No. 9 Baylor 3, Northwestern State 0
Whitney Canion (4-0) held a no-hitter thru 4.0 innings before a bloop single became the lone hit given up en route to a 13-strikeout performance. Kathy Shelton paced the offense, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Clare Hosack added a pair of hits and a run.

The Lady Bears plated one across in the second, as Jordan Strickland singled and Kelsi Kettler got hit by a pitch before a Hosack single loaded the bases. Shelton battled to a full count and was hit by a pitch for an RBI and 1-0 lead.

Baylor added two more in the fourth with Shelton adding two more RBI. Hosack led off the inning with a double down the left field line, followed by a single from Delaney Guy to place Hosack at third. Guy stole second to get into scoring position, and Shelton singled to right center for a 3-0 lead.

Canion picked up her third 10-plus strikeout performance of the year after fanning at least one batter each inning.

GAME TWO
No. 9 Baylor 3, Northwestern State 0
Hosack registered Baylor's first home run of the season, blasting a three-run shot to lead the Lady Bears to a 3-0 win.

Courtney Repka (3-0) picked up the win after going 5.0 innings, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out three. Liz Paul came on for the two-inning save, her first of the season, throwing perfect relief and adding a strikeout.

Shelton extended her hit streak to 14 and has reached base in 25 consecutive games. Northwestern State loaded the bases with one out in the top of the third, but Repka forced a shallow pop fly and ground out to third to end the threat.

Baylor broke the scoreless tie in the fourth starting with a single from Canion and a one-out walk from Sydney Wilson. That set the stage for Hosack to belt her first homer to left center for a 3-0 lead.

BU's pitching staff shut the door in the final three innings, not allowing a runner to reach to guide the Lady Bears to victory.

Baylor will host the six-team Fairfield Inn North - Texas Shootout beginning on Friday. The Lady Bears will first take on UTEP at 3:00 p.m. at Getterman Stadium.
