WACO, Texas - Cal Towey delivered a pair of extra-base hits and drove in three runs to lead Baylor to a 9-5 win over Sam Houston State on Tuesday night at Baylor Ballpark. With the win, the Bears extended their winning streak in non-conference games to 13 straight.

Towey gave Baylor (22-14) an early lead with a RBI double in the third inning, and after the Bears had fallen behind 3-2, he delivered a two-run triple in the fourth to give Baylor the lead for good.

Three different Baylor pitchers combined to hold Sam Houston State (15-23) to five runs. Trent Blank, Jon Ringenberg and Shawn Tolleson worked 3.0 innings apiece. Ringenberg (3-0) picked up the win by allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts, and Tolleson notched the first save of his career by holding the Bearkats to two runs on five hits with five strikeouts over the last three frames.

"What happened tonight was exactly what I had hoped would happen," head coach Steve Smith said. "I was trying to get three innings apiece out of our three pitchers, and I would have rather had (Shawn Tolleson) and Jon (Ringenberg) not throw 60-plus pitches to do it, but it is what it is, and they got it done."

Blank got the start on the mound and retired the side in order in each of the first two innings. The only hits he allowed in 3.0 shutout innings were a pair of infield singles in the third, and he turned the ball over to Ringenberg to start the fourth.

Baylor broke a scoreless tie in the third when Towey doubled in Raynor Campbell and Joey Hainsfurther's groundout brought Towey around to score, putting the Bears on top 2-0.

Sam Houston State answered with three runs in the fourth on four extra-base hits and a pair of errors. Chris Andreas' RBI triple got the Bearkats on the board, and Jared Wondra's solo homer gave SHSU a 3-2 lead.

Towey answered with his two-out, two-run triple in the bottom half of the inning, giving the Bears a 4-3 lead.

Ringenberg settled in and struck out all three batters swinging in the fifth, and Baylor padded its lead with three more runs. Max Muncy drew a two-out walk, Dan Evatt drilled a two-run homer just to the right of the batters' eye in center field, Glime singled and Jake Miller followed with a triple off the batters' eye.

Ringenberg worked around a two-out single in the sixth, and Tolleson struck out two while retiring the side in order in the seventh.

Baylor extended its lead to 8-3 in the sixth when Towey reached on an error and scored on Brooks Pinckard's RBI doubled, but the Bearkats got that run back in the eighth when Jessie Plumlee hit a bloop double down the right-field line and came home on Daniel Nottebart's infield single.

The Bears plated their ninth run of the night when Chris Slater hit a pinch-hit triple leading off the eighth inning and scored on Pinckard's sacrifice fly. SHSU capped the scoring when it got three consecutive two-out hits in the ninth, but Tolleson got Taylor Davis to flyout with two runners on to end the game.

Towey went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs, three RBI and a stolen base, and Glime went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Wondra led the Bearkats at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a run and one RBI.

Sam Houston State reliever Paul Spinn (1-4) took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits with a pair of walks in 2.0 innings.

The Bears head south on I-35 to take on Texas State at Bobcat Baseball Stadium at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, and Baylor resumes Big 12 Conference play when it hosts Nebraska for a three-game series this weekend.
