Recap | Box Score
Head Coach Steve Smith On the mood of his team:
"They are probably as much frustrated as anything, particularly offensively, because we just struggled so much for three games. Today more than anything I felt they all thought we had a really good chance when we got to number three in their rotation. He is not an overpowering guy and we just couldn't make an adjustment. We just hit fly ball after fly ball."
On the game:
"Give them credit they made all of the routine plays. Really both teams played the game pretty well today defensively. Both teams pitched it pretty well or at least effectively. We have one ball in the dirt that gets away from us to score that run. They would have scored it anyway on the hit that followed."
On the series:
"We just didn't swing the bats well this whole weekend. I think you have to give K-State some credit for that. They are ranked were they are and they have had the success they have had for a good reason. Their people are behind them and they are enjoying their success right now."
On his team's opportunities:
"We didn't have many opportunities. I think Gregg (Glime) walked his first two times up and we may have left him at second base. Brooks (Pinckard) steals second and over slides the bag, which on the stuff out here is pretty hard to do. That turns into a one-two-three inning, instead of having a runner at second base with nobody out. In a game like this that could have changed the game as well."
On his team's pitching:
"We will go as far as our pitching will take us. Our pitching pitched us well this weekend and gave us a chance to win three games. We weren't good enough offensively to do it. I think if you keep pitching it and keep playing defense the way we are playing it things will work out in your favor. You have to do that."
On his team's offensive production:
"I believe in this team offensively. I just think this is a really good offensive team. It just had a bad weekend. The game will humble you very quickly. You come off a week and a weekend like we did last weekend and everybody is high and you come here and you get it handed to you a little bit. Now you have to pick yourself back up. That is the way baseball is. That is why it is a tough game to play. It is a tough game to coach and quite honestly it is a tough game to be a fan of, because you just aren't going to win them all no matter how good you are."
On next week:
"We have Sam Houston at home on Tuesday and then we go down to Texas State and then we have Nebraska at home over the weekend. It is military appreciation weekend. We will be honoring our veterans that our back here. It is always a special time and always a time they genuinely appreciate. Our guys from the VA hospital will be there and I hope everybody will come out and support them."
