WACO - For the second time in three seasons, the Baylor softball coaching staff was recognized as a regional coaching staff of the year as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association named the Lady Bears staff 2009 NFCA Division I Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year the organization announced.
The Baylor coaching staff, comprised of head coach Glenn Moore, associate head coach Mark Lumley, assistant coach Britni Newman, assistant coach Josh Newman and student assistant coach Maritza Martinez, were selected for the honor after leading the Lady Bears to a 40-22 record and their third NCAA regional title. Baylor finished the season ranked 15th in both the ESPN.com/USA Softball and USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Polls, the third highest final ranking in program history.
A number of players received individual honors under the coaching of this year's staff, as four players earned NFCA all-region honors and five Lady Bears were named to the All-Big 12 team.
The Washington coaching staff, which led the Huskies to the 2009 national title, was named NFCA Division I National Coaching Staff of the Year.
