Box Score
The Baylor softball team (36-19, 11-7) held a 2-1 lead heading into the sixth but could not hold, as Texas A&M (31-19, 8-9) scored a run apiece in the last two innings for a 3-2 victory over the Lady Bears on Sunday at Getterman Stadium. Baylor finished the regular season in a tie for third place in conference, and holds the tiebreaker over Texas for the third seed at the Big 12 Tournament.
Texas A&M got on board in the first inning with a Holly Ridley single up the middle that scored Macie Morrow for a 1-0 lead.
With just one hit entering the fifth inning, Baylor's offense came alive in the fifth when Alex Colyer began the inning with a double to left, her 10th of the season. With one out, and runners at first and second, pinch runner Sophia Lujan and Courtney Oberg pulled off a double steal to get in scoring position. Weldon then delivered a game-tying RBI up the middle and advanced to second on the throw. Following a Jordan Vannatta walk to load the bases, T. Wesley sent a sac fly to left to score pinch runner, Sydney Wilson from third for a 2-1 lead.
With Baylor leading 2-1, Bailey Schroeder doubled to right center, scoring Ridley from second, to tie the game at two. The Aggies would take the lead the next inning, as Rhiannon Kliesing singled to left center that scored Natalie Villareal from second for the 3-2 lead. Whitney Canion came back to get two straight outs with the bases loaded, however, giving Baylor a chance in the seventh.
The Lady Bears got a leadoff single from Oberg in the top of the seventh, but a fielder's choice retired her at second. With two away, Meagan Weldon stole second to get into scoring position for Tiffany Wesley, who grounded out to third to end the game.
Aggie pitcher Rebecca Arbino (11-6) gave up just four hits, two runs, two walks and struck out three in a complete game effort.
Whitney Canion (23-15) took the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits, walking three and striking out ten in 7.0 innings. She now has 20, 10-plus strikeout games on the season.
