AMES, Iowa - Nicole and Tiffany Wesley combined for five RBI to help guide the Baylor softball team (31-15, 7-3) to a 6-3 win over Iowa State (19-22, 1-6) Friday at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Ames. The Lady Bears' 15 hits were the most in a conference game since tallying 15 at Texas Tech on April 6, 2007.
Six Baylor batters recorded at least two hits, as Nicole Wesley tied a career high with three RBI on the day, going 3-for-4, while Megan Turk went 3-for-4 and Tiffany Wesley added a pair of hits to go with two RBI.
Baylor had hits in six of the seven innings, including getting the leadoff batter on via a hit in the first five.
Whitney Canion (18-11) picked up the win with her 25th complete game, going 7.0 innings, allowing seven hits, three earned runs and striking out 10. Her 10 strikeouts marked her 13th 10-plus strikeout game of the season, tying a Baylor record with Cristin Vitek.
The Lady Bears broke a 3-3 tie with a three-run fifth, as Kayce Walker and Reagan leading off the inning with singles. Colyer singled up the middle, scoring Walker and evening the game. With one out, N. Wesley ripped a double to left center that brought Reagan and Colyer across the plate and gave BU a 5-3 lead.
Baylor added an insurance run in the top of the seventh with Colyer singling to right center, stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch to reach scoring position. With two outs, N. Wesley delivered another RBI-single for the 6-3 lead.
After stranding runners at first and second in the first, Baylor scored a pair in the top of the second, as for the second-straight inning the first two runners led off with hits. With Nicole Wesley and Megan Turk at third and second, Tiffany Wesley laced a two-RBI single to center for a 2-0 lead.
Iowa State tied the game, as a pair of bunt singles and a wild pitch put runners at second and third for a Heidi Kidwell double that scored two runs, evening the game.
The Cyclones took the lead in the fourth with a two-out triple by Bianca Lopez that scored Amanda Bradberry from first for a 3-2 advantage.
Baylor will finish the series with the Cyclones Saturday beginning at noon at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
