Despite outhitting the Tigers by a 4-3 margin, the Baylor softball team (25-11, 2-1) allowed one run apiece in the sixth and seventh as No. 13 Missouri (29-4, 2-1) came from behind to defeat the Lady Bears, 2-1. Baylor stranded six runners on the day to the Tigers' zero, as the loss snapped a seven-game win streak for BU.
Freshman Whitney Canion (14-9) had a perfect game going through 5.1 innings, until a Megan Christopher home run to left center broke up the attempt in the sixth. Canion went 7.0 innings, allowing three hits, two runs and striking out 10. The game marked the 11th time this season the lefty has recorded 10-plus strikeouts in a game.
The Lady Bears jumped ahead 1-0 in the second, as Courtney Oberg led off the inning with a single. Megan Turk then reached on an error and Meagan Weldon got aboard via a fielder's choice to load the bases. With two outs in the inning, Tiffany Wesley singled to center to score one, but Baylor would leave the bases full with a 1-0 advantage.
Christopher's home run broke up the perfect game in the sixth, and the Tigers took the lead in the top of the seventh, as Marla Schweisberger singled up the middle for an RBI, giving MU the 2-1 lead.
With two outs, Tiffany Wesley reached on an error in the bottom half of the inning, but Kayce Walker struck out to end the comeback attempt.
Stacy Delaney (6-2) picked up the win for Missouri, striking out six in 7.0 innings of work.
