The No. 24 Baylor softball team (17-3 overall) used a pair of home runs by Brette Reagan and Alex Colyer to power past Louisiana-Monroe (6-15 overall) 10-3 Sunday to sweep the QTI Invitational, taking the team title. Baylor's 17 hits on the day tied a season-high and brought its win streak to 11 in-a-row, as BU has taken 17 of its last 18 games.
"This was a great way to finish our home tournament," head coach Glenn Moore said. "I think this team is playing very well, but we need to step it up with the extremely tough upcoming road trip."
Colyer finished the day 3-for-4 with an RBI on her first home run of the season, while Reagan went 1-for-2 with a three-run blast, her fifth of the season. Brittany Turner (3-0) came on in relief to pick up the victory, throwing five innings, giving up four hits, one run, one walk and a career-high seven strikeouts.
Baylor jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Tiffany Wesley and Kayce Walker each singled and advanced on a Reagan sacrifice bunt. Colyer then hit a bouncer to third that was misplayed by the third baseman, allowing Wesley to score. Megan Turk then delivered an RBI-single, for the two-run cushion.
The Warhawks answered in the second with a pair of runs off starter Shaina Brock, including a leadoff homer by Megan Miller.
Colyer untied the ballgame in the bottom of the inning, lacing the ball over left center for a solo shot, giving the Lady Bears a 3-2 lead.
ULM was not done, as Brianna Love tripled to left and came around to score on a single to tie the game for the second time.
Baylor would take over the game in the bottom of the fourth, as Meagan Weldon led off the inning with a walk followed by a double to right center by T. Wesley. That set the stage for Reagan, who hit a towering blast over the left field wall for a 6-3 advantage.
The Lady Bears added a run in the fifth on a sac fly by Bree Hanafin, and three more in the sixth. Kalee Young got her first career hit, a double, bringing Reagan around to score, while Sydney Wilson picked up her first career RBI with a single to left. Weldon finished off the scoring with her own RBI-single to bring Colyer across the plate.
Baylor will now embark on a 10-game, nine-day road trip beginning on Wednesday at Centenary with first pitch set for 5:00 p.m.
