Box Score
WACO - The No. 24 Baylor softball team (16-3 overall) won game one over Louisiana Tech (8-7 overall) 4-3 with a walk-off single by Alex Colyer, only to be topped by Whitney Canion's no-hitter in the nightcap, leading the Lady Bears to an 8-0 victory against Rutgers (2-6 overall).
The no-hitter, the 13th in program history, was the first by a Baylor pitcher since Lisa Ferguson registered one against Southern Mississippi on Feb. 9, 2007. The pair of victories bring the Baylor win streak to 10 in-a-row, as BU has taken 17 of its last 18 games.
"I like the way this team is performing and coming together," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We keep getting clutch hits from up and down our lineup, which makes our offense more formidable."
Canion (10-2) pitched five innings, walking just one and striking out eight. Offensively, Kayce Walker and KJ Freeland each went 3-for-3, while Colyer and Meagan Weldon each notched two hits with Tiffany Wesley driving in three runs.
The Lady Bears got game two started off quickly, as Reagan followed a Walker single with a blast over right center for her fourth home run of the season, giving BU a 2-0 lead.
After adding two more in the second, Oberg led off the third with a single and came around to score on a Colyer double. Baylor was not done, however, as a Weldon single brought Colyer around to score for a 6-0 lead.
The final two-run inning for the Lady Bears began with Bree Hanafin leading off the fifth with a double down the left field line. After loading the bases, T. Wesley singled bringing Weldon and Hanafin around to score, giving Baylor its 8-0 cushion.
Canion shut the door in the fifth, striking out the final two batters to keep the Scarlet Knights hitless.
Game One
Baylor held a 3-0 lead, until Louisiana Tech scored three runs on five hits in the sixth, tying the game. With two on and one out, Colyer delivered a single to center for the walk-off RBI, giving BU the 4-3 win.
A Walker single led off in the seventh, followed by a Reagan single to put Walker in scoring position. After Oberg popped up a bunt, Colyer delivered her late-game heroics for the win.
The Lady Bears started the scoring in the second, when Jordan Vannatta delivered a single followed by a Sydney Wilson walk, with both coming around to score on a Hanafin two-RBI double.
BU took a three-run lead in the fourth on a Walker single that scored pinch-runner, Sophia Lujan. The Lady Techsters answered in the top of the sixth, loading the bases for Amberly Waits' single that scored one run, but had the second potential runner thrown out on a great relay home from Turk to Colyer to Oberg. With two outs, Kylie Bassett notched a two-RBI single to tie the game at three apiece.
Baylor is now 27-2 all-time at the QTI Invitational and will be back in action to wrap up tournament play on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. against Louisiana-Monroe.
