WACO - The No. 24 Baylor softball team (12-3 overall) came from behind for a 5-4 win in the opener, then blanked Oklahoma Christian (2-4 overall) in game two, 5-0 to sweep the doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Getterman Stadium. With the victory, the Lady Bears have won six in-a-row and 12 of their last 13.
"We were fortunate to win game one," head coach Glenn Moore said. "We changed our lineup to get some other kids a chance, but I am proud that we found a way to win."
Jenny Isham started game one and cruised through the first two innings allowing just one hit and a pair of strikeouts.
Oklahoma Christian got to Isham in the third, scoring four runs on four hits that included a two RBI double by Casey Brady.
The Lady Bears had runners on third with two outs in both the third and fourth innings, but were unable to bring them home, keeping them scoreless.
Baylor finally got on the board in the fifth, as Kayce Walker singled and Tiffany Wesley advanced to second after a leadoff walk. Reagan earned a four-pitch walk to load the bases, but Courtney Oberg grounded into a double play, forcing Reagan out at home and finishing the twin killing at first. With two outs, Alex Colyer pinch hit and hit a fly ball to short where it was dropped, allowing a pair of runners to score, cutting the Eagle lead in half.
The Lady Bears added two more in the sixth, as a triple by Reagan brought Bree Hanafin and T. Wesley around to score, tying the game.
Brittany Turner (2-0) came on in relief, shutting the door on Oklahoma Christian with a perfect seventh inning. That allowed Baylor to come through in the seventh, as Hanafin hit a sac fly to shallow center that allowed Wilson, who walked, to score from third, ending the ballgame.
Game Two
Shaina Brock (3-1) put together her best performance of the season, notching a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits, a walk and fanning six.
Baylor took a 1-0 lead in the third wen Reagan smacked an RBI double, scoring Walker from third. Walker drew a free pass, stole second and advanced to third when the shortstop could not handle the throw from the catcher.
Colyer led off the fourth with a single, advanced to second by a Nicole Wesley sacrifice bunt and reached third on a wild pitch. That brought Megan Turk to the plate, who grounded out to short for an RBI. Meagan Weldon stepped up and blasted her first home run of the season over left center, giving BU a 3-0 advantage.
The Lady Bears notched their final two runs in the fifth, with Reagan registering an RBI single, scoring T. Wesley from second. After Reagan stole second, Oberg ripped a single past second to score Reagan for a five run lead that ended up being the final score.
Baylor will be back in action Friday with the start of the QTI Invitational at Getterman Stadium. The Lady Bears will face Louisiana-Monroe at 3:00 p.m. and Rutgers at 5:00 p.m. with first pitch of tournament play set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
