The Aledo Ladycats had the pressure of being the state's top Class 4A team back in February, and carried that target throughout the season. In addition to the bull's-eye, Aledo took the best shot from each opponent, something Whitney Canion said she enjoyed every time. Canion and the Ladycats prevailed, finishing the season atop the state 4A poll, while Canion went 23-0-1 to lead the two-time District 8-4A champions. She finished the regular season with a Fort Worth-best 0.10 ERA and 281 strikeouts.

Getting to know Canion

What are your plans this summer?
I'm playing select softball with Texas Glory Gold out of McKinney, and we play every single weekend pretty much. We played last weekend in Houston, we go to Tomball this weekend, and we're traveling to New Jersey, Colorado, Oklahoma and other fun places before I head off to college.

With select ball, do you have the big-time crowds like when Aledo played Joshua in the region final?
Oh, heck no. I mean we may have all the parents there and that's about it. Parents and college coaches. I've never seen a softball crowd like that. That was the coolest thing ever. After the game, me and my dad were talking and he told me, 'You'll never see a crowd like that again.' Then I told him that I didn't think I would, either.
