Final Stats
The Baylor softball team (20-13, 3-6 Big 12) used a six-run fourth inning and a solid outing from freshman pitcher Shaina Brock to defeat Kansas (29-10, 3-3 Big 12) 8-1 at Getterman Stadium on Sunday.
Brock (3-2) threw a complete game, giving up four hits, one run, no walks and seven strikeouts. The seven strikeouts were a season high for Brock and a season high for a Baylor pitcher.
Jordan Daniels led the way offensively for the Lady Bears, going 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI.
Baylor jumped out to an early lead in the first, as Daniels hit a slow roller down the first base line that stayed fair, allowing Brette Reagan to score from third to make the score 1-0.
Kansas answered in the third with an RBI double from Amanda Jobe, making the score 1-1.
The Lady Bears broke the game wide open in the fourth, as KJ Freeland and Reagan each hit bunt singles to lead off the inning. With one out, the runners advanced on a wild pitch and Freeland came home on an RBI single by Courtney Oberg. Daniels then blasted a double to the wall in right center, scoring Reagan and Oberg, making it 4-1.
Val George came on in relief of KU starter Allie Clark and got a groundout for out number two. Nicole Wesley walked, putting runners at first and second for Alex Colyer, who doubled to left center, bringing both runners around to score. Colyer moved up to third on a passed ball, and scored on a second passed ball to make the score 7-1.
Brock fell into a groove, holding the Jayhawks to just one hit, a double in the seventh, from the fourth inning on.
Baylor added one more in the fifth, as Reagan walked and stole second to get into scoring position for Daniels, who ripped a single to center for her fourth RBI of the day.
The Lady Bears out-hit the Jayhawks 10-4, but stranded nine runners in the game.
Baylor will step outside conference play on Wednesday at it hosts Stephen F. Austin (25-14 overall) at 5:30 p.m. at Getterman Stadium.
