Final Stats
The Lady Bears (23-19) used timely hitting and a combined shutout effort from Jenny Isham and Brittany Turner to defeat the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (32-21), 3-0 at Getterman Stadium on Tuesday night.
The loss snaps a four-game losing streak for Baylor and marks its eighth-straight win over SFA.
After going in order in the first, SFA loaded the bases in the second, but Isham got Crystal Garcia to foul out to third to end the threat.
Baylor got its offense going in the third, as Colby Vanham led off the inning with a single to shallow center and Maritza Martinez answered with a bunt single passed the pitcher. With one out, Nicole Wesley singled to shortstop, loading the bases for Brette Reagan, who hit a sac fly, scoring Martinez from third for a 1-0 lead.
Turner relieved Isham to begin the fourth inning, and held the Ladyjack bats to just one hit the rest of the way.
With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Alex Colyer ripped a double down the left field line, bringing Meagan Weldon to the plate. Weldon singled on a bunt, and turned to go to second, forcing SFA to get her in a rundown. That allowed Colyer to score from third, giving Baylor a 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Bears scored in their third straight inning when N. Wesley hit a sac fly to left, scoring pinch runner, Morgan Craig from third. Vanham had begun the inning with her second hit of the night and was substituted on the base path for Craig. After Craig stole second, she advanced to third on a Kirsten Shortridge single that allowed her to score on the sac fly.
Isham (11-3) picked up the win, going three innings, giving up five hits, walking one and striking out two. Turner picked up her second save, after a great relief outing of four innings, one hit, two walks and four strikeouts.
Baylor will be back in action on Wednesday for its final two home games as the Lady Bears host No. 7 Oklahoma at Getterman Stadium. Wednesday will be Gold Out Getterman Night, as the first 1,200 fans will receive gold Baylor Softball t-shirts. It is also Military Appreciation Night, with all military personnel and their families receiving tickets for $3 with a military ID.
