Final Stats
LINCOLN, Neb. - The Baylor softball team (21-14 4-7 Big 12) got a one-hitter from Kirsten Shortridge in game one, winning 7-0, but fell 5-0 in game two to Nebraska (17-20, 1-7 Big 12) at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln, Neb on Sunday.
Shortridge (5-5) threw a complete game shutout in the first game, giving up one hit, no runs, one walk and four strikeouts for the win. She also led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Baylor jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second, as Shortridge singled to lead off the inning and stole second with no outs. After back-to-back outs, Alex Colyer reached on a throwing error by the third baseman, allowing Shortridge to score.
The Lady Bears added three more in the third beginning with a Reagan walk, followed by a single from Tiffany Wesley. Courtney Oberg then stepped up and delivered a perfect bunt to load the bases. Reagan came in to score on a wild pitch, and with one out Shortridge delivered a one out single to center. BU finished the scoring in the inning as Nicole Wesley hit an RBI single to shortstop, giving Baylor a 4-0 advantage.
Nebraska's lone hit came in the fifth, as left fielder Tiffany Wesley had to run and track a fly ball, while battling the wind, as the ball just slipped out of her glove for a double.
Baylor scored three insurance runs in the seventh as pinch hitter Jordan Vannatta led off with a walk. KJ Freeland came back in to pinch run and scored on a Reagan double for a 5-0 lead. Reagan came in to score as Shortridge reached on an error, and a second error allowed Marcum to reach and load the bases for Meagan Weldon, who walked for an RBI and a 7-0 lead.
Shortridge shut the door in the seventh, giving Baylor the game one win.
Nebraska came out firing in game two and never looked back, scoring three runs in the second, one in the third and one in the fourth, with three coming with two outs.
The Lady Bears managed just three hits, with only two runners advancing to scoring position.
Shaina Brock (3-3) picked up the loss, going 1.2 innings, giving three hits, three runs, two earned, no walks and no strikeouts.
Baylor will step outside conference play on Wednesday at it travels for a doubleheader against No. 10 Houston beginning at 3 p.m. in Houston.
