Softball Travels To Nebraska For Doubleheader

The Baylor softball team (20-13, 3-6 Big 12) hit the road for a weekend conference doubleheader against Nebraska (16-19, 0-6 Big 12) beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Baylor sits in a tie for sixth in the Big 12, while the Huskers are 10th.

The Lady Bears are coming off a 1-1 weekend against Kansas. Wednesday's game against Stephen F. Austin was postponed due to weather and rescheduled for April 29 at 5:30 p.m.

The Huskers have dropped 10 of their last 12 games after falling to Creighton 13-1 in five innings on Wednesday. Nebraska has played in three conference series and been outscored 35-3 in its six games.

Baylor swept the season series last season, 2-0 in Waco and has taken four of the last six. Nebraska leads the series 28-8 however, including an 8-2 mark in Lincoln.

The Huskers have dropped 10 of their last 12 games after falling to Creighton 13-1 in five innings on Wednesday. Nebraska has played in three conference series and been outscored 35-3 in its six games.
Junior Darcy Rutherford has been the team's most consistent offensive performer as she boasts a .375 batting average, good enough for seventh in the Big 12. Junior Crystal Carwile is tops on the team with 22 RBI and five home runs, while Meghan Mullin leads the team with 16 stolen bases. The Huskers are batting .273 overall and .166 in Big 12 play.
In the circle, Nebraska is led by sophomore Alex Hupp who has an 8-7 record with a 2.68 ERA. She leads the team with a 104.1 innings, accumulating 103 strikeouts. As a team, the Huskers have a 3.08 ERA overall and a 4.06 ERA in conference play.

Oh Boy! Oberg!
Sophomore Courtney Oberg struggled at the plate to start the season, but has picked it up in conference play. Prior to the start of conference play, Oberg was batting just .231 (15-for-65), but now the College Station native is leading the team with a .333 average (6-for-18) in Big 12 action.

Too Many Two Out Runs
Baylor's pitching staff has given up 117 runs heading into this weekend, but 42 of them (36 percent) have come with two outs. That averages to 1.27 extra runs a game coming with two outs on the board.

Finally!
Baylor had gone 35.1 straight innings without holding a lead in a ballgame until the top of the sixth in an April 2nd game against Texas, when Meagan Weldon hit a sac fly to right to score Oberg and give BU a 2-1 advantage.

The Lady Bears' come from behind win on April 2 against Texas was just their second of the season when trailing after six innings. The other happened on March 8 against Illinois-Chicago when Baylor scored three in the seventh to win 7-6.

Lady bears lead big 12 offense
Baylor's .320 team batting average still leads the Big 12 by .16 points, with Texas A&M in second with a .304 avg. The Lady Bears have five of the top 20 individual batting averages in the Big 12. Brette Reagan (.385) is third, Kirsten Shortridge (.376) is fifth, Jordan Daniels (.375) is tied for seventh, Nicole Wesley (.361) is 13th and KJ Freeland (.347) is 16th. No other conference foe has as many players in the top 20.
