We began by the trip by heading to San Antonio to play UTSA. It was a great team win that we accomplished together. We always expect more but each member of the team did exactly what was expected and we came out with a great win! Turner once again came ready to play and pitched a great game!! I have been telling her lately that she is my hero! Haha :)... Honestly though, I love stepping on the field with the pitching staff we have because I know that they all expect themselves to dominate the entire game and it feeds over to the rest of the defense. Our offense took a little while to wake up, but once it did we looked great. It's fun getting our short game and power hitters together in the same innings. We like to call that "passing the bat!"
We woke up Friday morning and left for the airport at 8:30. We had some trouble checking in and were a little bit worried there for a while but everything worked out perfectly fine. Our day's experience consisted of travel, travel and more travel all to find out that the hotel we traveled to was HAUNTED!!! Okay, you know those shows that are on TV sometimes that talk about haunted houses, mansion, and hotels? Our hotel was on it last November!! The 5th floor is haunted by a man and the 4th floor is haunted by some children!!! We spent that evening walking around getting a feel for the place and then headed to the hot tub!
Under Armour Classic-
I would say overall we played okay, but could still step it up in just about every area of our game. The weather wasn't much fun to play in for any of us, but it gave us some great experience playing when the conditions aren't helping us. There were a lot of weather delays to handle and our schedule got changed around quite a bit. As a team we are still struggling to pull everything together at the same time. We have games where the pitching dominates and then other games where our hitting dominates. Our game against USA was canceled and I think that was the biggest disappointment of all...we did get to see former spped and conditioning coach Brandon Marcello though!!!! Woohoo!!!
Disney World!!!!!! Oh what a fun day! We left that morning at 8:00 a.m. so that we could be there when the gates opened, and we did not leave until 11:30 p.m. that evening when the gates were closing. My personal favorites of the day were: Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, and the 3D Disney Movie. I think I enjoyed the day so much because I got to felt like a kid again. In three months, my softball career will be over and I will have to get a job in the real world, so having a full day to have fun and be silly was great!!! It was also fun because we got to see different sides of each other. A perfect example is Maritza... Man she is tough on the field, but it is fun seeing her get a bit scared before she gets on a roller coaster... :) Shhhh don't tell her I said that!! The day was so much fun and couldn't have been any better.
We finished up the trip with a pair of games against Liberty and Central Florida. We went 1-1 and played okay, but we know our best ball is ahead of us.
Finally on Thursday we left for home. After nine days on the road, it was nice to be home again!
Until next time,
Sic `Em,
Jordie
