The Baylor Lady Bears (8-3 overall) split a pair of games with nationally ranked opponents, defeating No. 23 Cal State Fullerton, 8-4, but falling to No. 5 UCLA, 6-1.
Baylor got the offense going in the nightcap, and got on board first in the top of the third when Courtney Oberg hit a sac fly to center, scoring Brette Reagan from third.
The Lady Bears busted it open in the fourth with five runs on four hits, including a grand slam by Reagan. A Tiffany Wesley single scored Jordan Vannatta from third and loaded the bases for Reagan, who powered a blast deep over the fence in left center.
Fullerton broke up the shutout by Jenny Isham in the bottom of the sixth with a home run to left center, making the score, 6-1.
Baylor answered right back in the top half of the inning with some insurance runs, beginning with an RBI single by Taylor Marcum to score Tiffany Wesley. Alex Colyer added the Lady Bears' final run of the game with an RBI single to third base, scoring Vannatta to make the margin 8-1.
The Titans made the score a little closer in the seventh, scoring three more runs and chasing Isham from the game. Shaina Brock came on to relieve Isham and pitched an inning of scoreless relief.
Isham finished the contest giving up five hits and three earned runs in six innings, moving her record to 4-1.
Baylor dropped the opening contest of the day to UCLA, 6-1.
Trailing 2-0 in the second, Colyer laid down a bunt with two outs to reach first. Meagan Weldon doubled down the left field line to bring Colyer around and cut the Bruin lead in half.
UCLA's Anjelica Selden kept the Lady Bear hitters off balance the rest of the way, and the Bruins scored runs in the third, fifth and seventh to earn the 6-1 win.
Kirsten Shortridge picked up her first loss of the year, allowing 10 hits and five earned runs with three strikeouts. Brittany Turner came on in relief, pitching one scoreless inning in the seventh.
