A 12-run first inning in game one of the doubleheader helped lead the No. 10 Lady Bears (5-1 overall) to a pair of wins over Prairie View A&M (2-9 overall) on Tuesday at Getterman Stadium. Baylor took the opener 17-0 in five innings and took the nightcap by a 6-0 margin.

Jordan Daniels, the Big 12 Player of the Week, kept up her torrid pace at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI, while Kirsten Shortridge went a perfect 7-for-7 with four RBI.

"I am very pleased that we came out and took care of business tonight," head coach Glenn Moore said. "It was important for us to get out here and try to gain momentum heading into the Palm Springs Classic this weekend."

Baylor got off to a hot start in game one, scoring 12 runs in the first inning. Shortridge started the inning with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball, to third on a wild pitch and home on another wild pitch. A double by Courtney Oberg made it 3-0 before Daniels stepped up and hit her fourth home run of the year over the right field wall to make it 5-0. With the score 7-0, Shortridge stepped back in and single to right center to score Alex Colyer. With a 9-0 lead, Daniels stepped back up to the plate and hit a three run shot, her second home run of the inning to give Baylor its 12th run of the inning.

The Lady Bears scored their final five runs in the fourth as Sophia Lujan singled to score Meagan Weldon before Shortridge stepped in and laced a triple over the center fielder's head to get two more Baylor players across the plate and make the score 15-0. The Lady Bears plated their final two runs when Danielle Honnette singled to center to score Shortridge and Jordan Vannatta singled to get Honnette across the plate for the final of 17-0.

Brittany Turner kept the Panther bats quiet, throwing three scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and striking out four. She was relieved by Jenny Isham, who finished up the shutout by striking out four in two innings of work.

In game two, Shortridge continued to swing a hot bat as she led off the game with another single to the pitcher and came around to score when Brette Reagan grounded out to second. A Vannatta sac fly scored Tiffany Wesley to give the Lady Bears a 2-0 lead at the end of one.

Baylor scored a run apiece in the second, third and fourth innings before scoring its final run of the game in the fifth on a Taylor Marcum groundout that scored pinch runner Morgan Craig.

Shortridge was on fire in the circle as well, throwing four shutout innings, giving up just two hits and striking out four. Shaina Brock came on in relief and finished off the shutout with three innings of no-hit ball while striking out two.

Baylor will make its first road trip of the season as it plays six games away from Getterman Stadium this weekend as a part of the Palm Springs Classic. The Lady Bears will open with Oregon on Thursday at 10 p.m. CT. That game can be heard live on 1660 ESPN Radio with Derek Smith bringing you all the play-by-play action.
