Game 4: Arizona 2, Baylor 1 (9 Innings)

BAYLOR HEAD COACH Glenn Moore

Opening comment:

"It was a tough game and it was superbly pitched on both sides of the ball. I thought we showed our youth, especially early when we had opportunities to advance runners. We talked all year to our girls about big games and how important it is to execute the short game and bunting. We just had maybe had the wrong people up in the box when we had to do that. We were not able to move runners over and I thought that hurt us early. I thought we may have had an opportunity to take control of the game early. I thought we had good leadership when we settled down and we gave ourselves some chances. The longer the game went the tougher the pitching got on both sides."

On the loss and what it does to his team's mentality:

"It is bad because you are in the losers' bracket. It is just one game and we are going to have to fight back through the losers' bracket now and play well. It is going to be a test of our endurance and our ability to regroup, as well as the leadership on this team. Somebody has to win them and someone has to lose them. There are teams that have come out of losers' brackets before. This was a tough way to lose a game."

BAYLOR SENIOR PITCHER LISA FERGUSON

On the pitch she threw to Kristie Fox that resulted in a game-ending home run:

"We were trying to fool her with a change up. We noticed earlier in the game that she was the type of hitter that would step over the plate for an outside pitch. She is a very good hitter. I definitely had no thought in my head she would hit a home run off that. It was very shocking."

BAYLOR SENIOR FIRST BASEMAN Ashley Monceaux

On Arizona pitcher Taryne Mowatt:

"She mixed in her change-up a whole lot. Our team struggled against that pitch today, so the more we struggled the more she brought it. The umpire was giving the outside pitch for lefties and in on righties. We just didn't make the adjustment that needed to be made. We didn't strike early enough in the count so we didn't have to go down chasing her stuff. She got ahead instead of us going after her stuff. It was a psyche game guessing what she was going to throw. We just didn't make the adjustments."

ARIZONA HEAD COACH MIKE CANDREA

Opening comment:

"It was a great ball game. Obviously when you get to this stage you expect games like this. Baylor played their butts off and we played our butts off. I had a vision in the last inning. I told the kids in the dugout, `Now when we hit a home run, make sure you stay back behind home plate.' I took a gamble and made a call on (Kristie) Fox. It was just a very hard fought game for us. (Pitcher) Taryne (Mowatt) did an outstanding job and we hung in there and that's what you have to do in games like that. We look forward to playing tomorrow."

On endorsing taking a chance on hitting:

"I think hitting is a guess. At this level if you aren't taking an educated guess, then you are missing the boat."

On facing Tennessee pitcher Monica Abbott on Friday:

"We are excited. We are going to go home, eat, go to bed, get up in the morning, eat some breakfast and get ready for her. We have seen her before and she is a very good pitcher, but we have a very good pitcher. It's going to be a good ball game."

ARIZONA SENIOR SHORTSTOP KRISTIE FOX

On her game-ending home run:

"Sometimes you just take a chance and I took a chance. I swung the bat hard and that's what happened. The inning before that she threw me a rise ball and I happened to miss it and then she ended up walking me. Sometimes you just have to take a chance. I went up there with the mentality just to get on base for my team and let them do the job. But every once in a while I like to take a big swing and that's what I did. After that I was going to work the count and settle down and put the ball in play."

On her catch to end a Baylor rally in the fifth inning:

"I definitely knew I had a shot. I just had to run as fast as I could and stretch my little arm out there. I got a pretty good jump on it."

ARIZONA JUNIOR PITCHER TARYNE MOWATT

On her performance:

"I started off a little slow. This is my first time being on the mound at the World Series. But after a while I think I settled in. I knew that I just needed to keep my team in the ball game and eventually we would score."

On whether the game became a pitching battle:

"In that situation basically it comes down to who has more heart and I was not going to let them score again. I thought the first run they got was kind of given to them, but it was a close game and I was going to keep my team in the game. I knew we were hitting the ball hard and eventually something would fall."
