SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - The Baylor men's golf team shot a 311 to fall to 18th place on moving day at the NCAA Central Regional at Rich Harvest Farms hosted by Northern Illinois.
Baylor, in a tie for sixth place after 18 holes, dropped 23 more shots on Friday, falling to 13 shots back of the final qualifying spot. Tulsa shot 8-under par as a team to claim the tournament lead at 9-over par, while Lamar's Dawie van der Walt sits alone the top of the leaderboard at 4-under par.
Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) followed his first round 73 with an 8-over par 80 in the second round. Thomas seemed to be shooting a solid round before double-bogeys on the eighth and 15th holes put him eight shots over.
Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas), who shot 15-over par on Thursday, responded on Friday to card a 7-over par 79. Again, Allcorn's round looked in good shape until a triple-bogey on eight and a double-bogey on ten, forced him five shots off the pace.
Senior Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) recorded a score of 81 on Friday, putting him at 15-over par for the tournament. Frye got off to a tough start on the front nine, shooting 6-over par through nine holes, before settling down to shoot 39 on the back nine.
Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) shot 2-over on both the front and the back nine to finish at 76 for the day. Williams, who shot 3-over par on holes 7 through 9, salvaged the round with a birdie on the par-5 15th hole.
Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) also shot 76 on the day to push his two-day total to 9-over par. After two bogeys on the front nine, Alcorn recorded an eagle on the 11th hole to move to even-par. A triple bogey on 16 and a bogey on 17 pushed the senior to 4-over on the day.
Baylor returns to action on Saturday in the final round of the NCAA Central Regional. The Bears need to finish in the top ten at the tournament to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Williamsburg, Va.
