WACO, Texas --- The No. 8 Baylor softball team looks to keep its Big 12 Conference title hopes alive as the Lady Bears return to action this week as they host No. 5 Texas A&M (39-8, 12-5) for a single contest on Tuesday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Bears (43-12, 12-3) enter the contest two wins away from clinching at least a share of the regular season Big 12 Conference title; however, a loss to the Aggies or Texas on Thursday will eliminate Baylor from the regular-season title race.
"Obviously, it does not get much bigger than this," head coach Glenn Moore said. "To have the opportunity to play the final two games of the season in front of our home crowd with the Big 12 Conference title on the line is exciting. We all know Texas A&M is a great team and I think the team knows they will have to play at the top of their game in order to get a win."
Baylor enters the contest after splitting a pair of games against Big 12 co-leader Missouri this past weekend. Ashley Monceaux and Brette Reagan continue to lead the Lady Bears attack as Monceaux leads the team with a .401 average, 15 home runs and 55 RBI while Reagan has led the way during conference play as the sophomore leads the team with a .478 average, six home runs and 20 RBI against Big 12 competition.
Senior Lisa Ferguson will likely get the start in the circle for the Lady Bears as the senior enters the contest with a 20-7 record and 2.00 ERA on the year. The right-hander picked up the victory the last time the two teams squared off as Ferguson allowed only one, unearned run in eight innings as Baylor picked up a 3-1, extra-inning victory earlier this season.
Texas A&M, eliminated from the Big 12 Conference title race with a loss against Texas Tech on Sunday, is led by pitcher Amanda Scarborough. The junior ranks second in the Big 12 Conference with a 1.11 ERA as she has posted a 20-5 record in 164.0 innings of work so far this season.
Megan Gibson leads the attack at the plate as she leads the team with a .418 average, 10 home runs and 34 RBI on the year.
Despite dropping the series opener to the Lady Bears this season, Texas A&M still leads the all-time series, 39-15-1, as the Aggies picked up a 4-3 win in Waco last season.
Only a limited number of general admission tickets remain for the contest with the Aggies. For tickets, contact the Baylor Ticket Office at 1-800-BAYLOR-U or 254-710-1000.
