Box Score

WACO, Texas --- No. 21 Missouri rallied from a pair of early deficits and held on to defeat the No. 8 Baylor softball team, 4-3, in action at Getterman Stadium on Saturday. With the loss, Baylor falls to 42-12 on the season, 11-3 in the Big 12 Conference, while Missouri improves to 36-19, 12-2 in league play.

A pair of two-run home runs by the Tigers would prove to be the difference as Jen Bruck hit a two-run blast in the top of the second to tie the game as Allison Kennewell's two-run home run in the fourth erased a one-run difference and proved to be the difference to give Missouri the win.

Baylor would jump out to an early, 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. After Nicole Wesley scored on a throwing error, Alex Colyer beat out an infield single to score Ashley Monceaux as the Lady Bears opened up a two-run cushion.

With the score tied in the third, Brette Reagan blasted her 10th home run of the season over the left-center field wall to give the Lady Bears a brief 3-2 lead.

After Kennewell's home run to center gave the Tigers a one-run advantage, Baylor had a couple of opportunities to tie the game over the final two innings. The Lady Bears placed two runners on in the sixth and another runner on-base in the seventh; however, Missouri pitcher Jana Hainey managed to work out of the jams and preserve the Tigers lead for her first save of the season.

Lisa Ferguson took the loss and dropped to 20-7 on the year after allowing four runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work.

Shortridge came into the game and kept the Lady Bears in the game by tossing 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits while striking out three.

Jen Bruck picked up the win for Missouri to improve to 18-6 on the season after allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings of work.

Baylor caught a break in its quest for its first-ever Big 12 Conference regular-season softball title as Oklahoma fell to Kansas, 2-0, in action on Saturday. With the Sooners loss, Baylor still controls its own destiny as wins in its final three games will clinch at least a tie for the Big 12 title.

Baylor and Missouri will conclude the series with a single game on Sunday, April 29, at 2:00 p.m. The contest will be Senior Day for the Lady Bears as Ferguson, Chelsi Lake, Ashley Monceaux and Miriam Romero will be honored following the game.
