AMES, Iowa --- Lisa Ferguson tied the Baylor career win mark with a victory in game one as she earned the save in game two to lead the No. 7 Lady Bears to a pair of wins over Iowa State on Sunday. Baylor picked up a 6-1 win in game one before a 7-4 victory in game two. With the victories, Baylor improves to 41-11, 11-2 in Big 12 play, as Iowa State falls to 22-35 on the season, 1-11 in conference action with the losses.
Ferguson was in control throughout game one, tossing a complete game victory, allowing only one run on five hits in seven innings of work as she improved to 19-6 on the season. The win pushed Ferguson's career victory total to 75 as the senior tied Stacey Allison (1996-99) on the Baylor career win list.
Baylor gave the senior right-hander the early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. Chelsi Lake delivered a RBI ground out to score Tiffany Wesley while Miriam Romero delivered a two-out, run-scoring single to score Brette Reagan from third to make the score 2-0.
After Iowa State cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning, it would be all Baylor the rest of the way as the Lady Bears would pick up the game one victory. Lake delivered a RBI double in the fourth as Reagan had the key blast in the game, a three-run home run in the sixth to give the Lady Bears a commanding 6-1 lead.
Ferguson would do the rest of the work as Iowa State was unable to mount a rally to drop game one to the Lady Bears.
Alyssa Ransom took the loss for Iowa State, allowing six runs on 11 hits in seven innings of work as she fell to 10-15 on the season.
In game two, Baylor would jump out to a 7-0 lead before holding on for a 7-4 victory to pick up the sweep.
Ashley Monceaux gave the Lady Bears a leg up as she drilled a three-run home run to center field to score Nicole Wesley and Reagan in the top of the first inning. The blast was the 15th home run of the season for the junior and her fifth of the year in Big 12 Conference play.
Kirsten Shortridge extended the lead to four runs as she hit a double in the left-center field gap, scoring Romero from second as the Lady Bears had a four-run advantage before the Cyclones had a chance to bat.
After N. Wesley stole third and scored on a throwing error in the second to make the score 5-0, Reagan put the finishing touches on the win as she hit her second home run of the day, a two-run blast over the center field wall in the sixth, to give the Lady Bears a seven-run advantage.
Iowa State tried to mount a rally, scoring an unearned run in the sixth before plating three in the seventh to cut the lead to three; but, Ferguson came into the game in relief of Shortridge and retired the final two batters to pick up her fourth save of the season.
Shortridge picked up the win to improve to 14-3 on the year after allowing two earned runs on five hits in 6.1 innings of work.
Charissa Carlin took the loss for Iowa State and fell to 9-9 on the season after allowing seven runs on 12 hits in seven innings of work.
With the wins, Baylor picked up its first-ever sweep at Iowa State to improve to 13-8 all-time against the Cyclones.
N. Wesley led the way with three hits and three runs scored as Monceaux and Reagan combined for five RBI in the win.
Baylor will return to action on Wednesday, April 28, as the Lady Bears step out of Big 12 Conference action to travel to San Marcos, Texas, to face Texas State for a single game at 6:00 p.m.
