AMES, Iowa --- The No. 7 Baylor softball team returns to action this weekend as the Lady Bears travel to Ames, Iowa, to face Iowa State in a two-game, Big 12 Conference series. Game one of the series is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, at 2:00 p.m. with the series finale slated for Sunday, April 22, at 12:00 p.m.
The Lady Bears enter the key series in a three-way tie for first place with Missouri and Oklahoma in the Big 12 Conference standings. Baylor saw its 13-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday as the Sooners swept a pair of games to hand the Lady Bears their first conference losses of the season to drop their record to 39-11, 9-2 in Big 12 play.
Ashley Monceaux continues to lead the way for the Lady Bears as the senior leads the team with a .406 average, 14 home runs and 51 RBI on the season. Brette Reagan continues to swing a hot bat in conference play as the sophomore third baseman has posted a .452 average with three home runs and a Big 12 leading 14 RBI in conference play.
Lisa Ferguson continues to lead the way in the circle for the Lady Bears as the senior enters the weekend one victory shy of tying the Baylor record for career wins, currently held by Stacey Allison (1996-99) who posted 75 career victories. Ferguson enters the weekend with an 18-6 record with a 1.97 ERA in 156.1 innings of work.
Iowa State, 22-33 overall and 1-9 in Big 12 play, is led by Alex Johnson, who is currently batting .322 on the season with five home runs and 22 RBI. In the circle, the Cyclones are paced by Alyssa Ransom who enters the series with a record of 10-14 and 2.61 ERA on the year.
Baylor and Iowa State met earlier this season with the Lady Bears picking up a 7-2 win over the Cyclones at the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational in Lafayette, La. Kirsten Shortridge picked up the complete game victory, allowing only two unearned runs on two hits in the victory. Charissa Carlin took the loss for Iowa State after allowing four runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
Baylor leads the all-time series with Iowa State, 11-8, as the teams split a pair of games the last times the teams squared off in Ames.
