MURRELLS INLET, S.C. - The Baylor men's golf team shot 309, its worst round of the spring season, in the finals round of competition to finish in 17th place at the General Hackler Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina at the TPC of Myrtle Beach.
"We just did not play well yesterday or today," said head coach Greg Priest. "I don't know if the course didn't suit us well, or we just had a couple of off days, but we just need to put this tournament behind us and get ready to tee it up this weekend."
After rounds of 300 and 291 in the first two rounds, Baylor finished the second day with a score of 21-over par to finish at 36-over par for the tournament. Lamar, the team leader through two rounds, fired a team score of 285 to finish at 26-under par to claim the team title.
"Chase [Thomas] played well for us today, and Colton [Williams] had two good rounds yesterday, but we just weren't able to put together good rounds," said Priest. "Hopefully we will be able to work those kinks out over the next couple of days."
Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) was the top finisher for Baylor, shooting a final round 73 to finish in a tie for 59th at nine-over par. Colton Williams (Jacksboro, Texas) was one shot back at ten-over par to finish alone in 64th place.
Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas) recorded a third round of 80 to finish at 11-over par in a tie for 65th place. Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) and Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) each shot 14-over par for the tournament to finish tied for 81st.
The Bears return to action March 16 and 17 as Baylor travels to Laredo, Texas to compete in the 56th Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club.
